Vanderbilt Thomas F. Roush, M.D., and Family Men’s Golf Head Coach Scott Limbaugh on the Carmel Cup
“I’m looking forward to starting this journey with this group. There are a lot of new faces, and their enthusiasm for Vandy golf is fun to see. The newcomers will help us continue to raise our standards and push each other to be our best. Talent is just the starting point, and now it’s about seeing each player embrace being their best, having fun, and creating the right habits.

“I want to see a group that plays with a purpose about who they want to be and what they want to become. We just got started last Thursday, so it’s a quick turnaround to be headed out west for the Carmel Cup. We are grateful to be able to play this event one more time, and we sure appreciate everything Mr. and Mrs. Ewing have done for us as a program and college golf.”

Vanderbilt at the Carmel Cup
The Commodores return to the Carmel Cup for the 11th time and for the first time since the 2021-22 season. Vanderbilt, along with Texas Tech, played in the inaugural Carmel Cup during the 2011-12 campaign. The Carmel Cup was then a three-day tournament that featured stroke play and medal match play before reverting to a 54-hole stroke play tournament the following season.

Vanderbilt had two golfers collect a total of three individual titles at the Carmel Cup from 2013-16. Matthis Schwab won a shortened 36-hole tournament in 2013-14 with a score of 3-under 141, then finished first in 2015-16 with a score of 2-under 214. Sandwiched between Schwab’s pair of Carmel Cup victories, Hunter Stewart captured medalist honors with a three-round total of 11-under 205 in 2014-15.

Vandy has yet to win the Carmel Cup as a team, though the Dores have posted a runner-up finish three times, with the last coming in 2014-15. This season marks the first time Vanderbilt has played the Carmel Cup at Spyglass Hill Golf Course since the inaugural event in 2011.
