The 45th Ryder Cup matches will be the fourth in a row to feature former Alabama All-American Justin Thomas on the United States team.
U.S. captain Keegan Bradley chose Thomas among his six picks for the team to go with the six automatic qualifiers. Bradley announced his captain’s picks on Wednesday.
Thomas was seventh in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings. The automatic qualifiers were Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English and Bryson DeChambeau.
Joining Thomas as captain’s picks were Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Cameron Young, Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns.
The biennial men’s golf competition between teams from the United States and Europe will be contested on Sept. 26-28 on the Black Course at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, New York.
The competition consists of 28 matches – four alternate-shot and four better-ball matches between two-man teams on Friday and Saturday and 12 singles matches on Sunday.
Thomas has a 3-0 singles record in the Ryder Cup, and he’s 7-4-1 in all matches. In eight of his nine alternate-shot and better-ball matches, he has been paired with Jordan Spieth, who is not a member of this year’s U.S. team. Thomas also has played once with Cantlay.
