The Mathews High School golf team faced off against Middlesex on Monday at the Piankatank River Golf Club, Hartfield. The Devils fell to the Chargers, 188 to 167. Brandon Hubbard and Chase Ambrose, from left, were the low scorers for Mathews, both coming in with a score of 44. “We are still scoring decent numbers,” said MHS head coach Jake Jackson. “Still improving day by day. The short game is our weakest point but there’s still time to come back.” The MHS golf team was scheduled to take on King William on Wednesday and will travel to West Point on Sept. 4.
