Keegan Bradley resisted the temptation to pick himself as a Ryder Cup wildcard, opting for six others in a Wednesday media conference and fully committing to the role of American captain.
Speculation had been rife for months that Bradley was going to select himself for a third Ryder Cup appearance as a player, with that theory strengthened when he won the Travelers Championship on the PGA Tour at the end of June.
Bradley, though, explained to assembled reporters at the PGA of America’s headquarters in Frisco, Texas, that the form showed by others in recent weeks forced his hand. Instead of ending an 11-year wait for another Ryder Cup as a player, Bradley abandoned the idea of combining roles, picking Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Cameron Young, Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns as wildcards.
