I love how far I can hit a driver, too. That’s why it’s insane to roll the ball back for the public.
Golfers are a special breed. Pro golfers anyway. I always picture them at home like – okay I need to wash my hands, hot or cold, hot or cold, hot or cold hmmmmm. Okay time to go to the bathroom, stand or sit, stand or sit, stand or sit hmmmmmmm. Time to go to the grocery store, list says peanut butter, Jif or Skippy, Jif or Skippy, Jif or Skippy, hmmmmmmm. Texting their caddy the entire time. Hey is Jif or Skippy the better choice? Caddy says, well are you making sandwiches or just spreading on some Ritz?
The current best golfer in the world gets his number, checks the wind, and lets it rip
I was stuck around a 20 handicap for a few years even though I golfed all the time.
I had really bad swing mechanics and a horrible slice with all my clubs except wedges.
I finally got so frustrated that I went and got some lessons and within one lesson my instructor noticed my over the top swing path and we solely worked on that.
Now I’m hovering around scratch.
But on the other hand, I have a few friends who already had good swings, and they went and got some lessons to work on other things and instead wrecked the good swing they already had.
So I would have to say if you’re new to golf, then lessons would be ideal but if you already have decent swing mechanics, just keep practicing And grinding short game, putting and course management
For me, it's that every instructional video is 15 min long for what could be taught in 45 seconds. It's all drawn out, wasted space that dilutes what is supposed to be taught.
When the Zinger speaks listen Still love playing is blades.
Paul makes too much sense. But he doesn't belong in our day. Everything today is overwrought with discussion and data and analysis. Golf is difficult to be perfect, close to perfect or consistently consistent. Golf is – physics of club face v ball,, the muscle memory of practice, distances to carry and roll and course/weather conditions. Just be natural, aware, calm and wholistic.
and he did not even get started on the range finders and cart GPS etc which really don't help most casual or earnest players get the ball in the hole any sooner.
I love how Paul talks about everyone having a different swing. The book “Extraordinary Golf” really teaches you how to understand and perfect your authentic swing. It also talks a lot about the psychological side of the game. I took a lot of lessons in my life, but nothing got me to where this book got me.
I think the golf stance is all wrong, you see the pros twisting there feet like crazy to get into what should be the right starting position. Things should be more opened up at address looking towards the target like a baseball player. Address your bat swing like your are addressing a golf swing and notice how weak that position is in terms of getting your body through without having to do some funky body swaying.
I'm 42 and have only been playing consistently for a year after a lifetime of hacker golf. I started out looking at the trackman stats and what everyone else's trackman stats were. Wasn't very helpful. So I went analog. What your eyes tell you 100 yards looks like versus a trackman telling you what 100 yards looks like is completely different. Went to an old school driving range with numbers out in the distance, took out my range finder then started hitting those targets or getting close to them. That got me to think about how my body was swinging the club and got me asking how I could swing consistently and accurately. I'm no pro, but I can make great putts, crafty chip shots and punch out of trouble. Getting those foundation skills in order helps you understand the data that the trackman is outputting and then you can pick which stats actually matter to your game. But I agree – we have all this tech and the scores haven't gotten better. How many course records have been shattered in the past 25 years? Bryson can barely break 50 from the reds playing best ball.
What does “shut” mean?
He's right. And Golf Digest and countless celebrity instructors have got rich ruining the games of millions of golfers and thereby taking the fun out of the game.
Instruction has always been out of hand. It comes from so many people who have no clue. Getting to t right impact position is key.
Can't believe NBC fired him. Great commentator.
Zinger was unique because he was shut or holding it off. But in reality no one else played like that and I don't see him with 18 majors. Love the Zing but I don't see that playing in that way Is any better than playing in a conventional way. Just ask Hogan, Nicholas, Tiger, etc, etc etc
And the only other reason that it worked for him being shut is because he was so flat. It was just an unconventional swing that worked for him. That doesn't mean that it transcends the conventional golf swing. He was just a great player. And the concept of his swing has gotten more popular because irons have so strengthened that a a seven iron is now a five iron. It's about these burner shots. Does nothing for the game
You would think that ball flight would win a British Open. Don't think so. I don't know what the appeal is of that ball flight other than you're as talented as Paul azinger. I mean Tom Watson won what five in the wind and he wasn't shut
Learn the fundamentals then find your swing.
Then don't buy it.
Love these smaller more digestible bites of this great content.
