In an Oval Office meeting with South Korea’s new president, Lee Jae Myung, Donald Trump says he would like to meet the North Korean leader this year.

Trump said, ‘I have a great relationship with Kim Jong-un … I spend a lot of free time with him talking about things that we probably aren’t supposed to talk about.’ Lee, deploying a well-worn strategy by foreign visitors to the Trump White House, talked golf and lavished praise on the Republican president’s interior decorating and peacemaking. Trump also suggested the US could seek to take over land in South Korea, saying, ‘I would like to see if we could get rid of the lease and get ownership of the land where we have a massive military base.’

I googled when Trump’s term would end and was shocked to see it only started in January 2025. Did I already know that? Sure. But it just feels so much longer than eight months.

This is a classic Dead Cat tactic. He's under pressure over the Russia – Ukraine situation, wants to create a distraction so drops a deceased cat on the table.
Knowing Trumps record I am not surprised
President Lee came from very poor household and had to quit school after elementary and went to work in factories. Where he got injured on his left arm which left him permanently handicapped.
While working as a factory boy, he studied at night to earn high school diploma and earned among highest college entrance exam at the time. Got full scholarship and became civil right lawyer, fighting for those with less fortunate circumstances.
Later became a major of a city and became one of the beloved politicians being transparent and engaging with the community.
After end of last year’s quo by the former president Yoon, who’s currently in jail waiting for trail, President Lee overwhelmingly took S Korean voter support and became current president.
Since came to office in June this year, he’s been tirelessly working to normalize and improve economic and political downturns. And already has shown big progress.
Meeting with Trump was a big test for him but he handled beautifully.
