The United Steelworkers teed off once again for a good cause, raising over $27,000 during their annual charity golf tournament in support of the Twinkie Foundation
An annual charity golf tournament hosted by the United Steelworkers has raised more than $27,000 for the Twinkie Foundation, which supports families who must travel for a child’s medical care.
The sixth annual Steelworkers Charity Golf Tournament was held Aug. 10 at Crimson Ridge. The event featured a four-person scramble, on-course contests including longest drive and closest to the pin, and drew golfers ranging from seasoned players to beginners.
A highlight of the day was the “Shaving Never Felt So Good” contest, which ended in a tie between Marc Ayotte, USW District 6 area co-ordinator, and Bill Slater, president of USW Local 2724.
Both volunteered to have their heads shaved by Catherine O’Donnell of Catherine’s Hairstyling & Barbershop. The contest raised $7,616.36 toward the total.
Organizers said volunteers and local sponsors played a key role in making the event possible.
The golf tournament raised a total of $27,603.13 for the Twinkie Foundation.
