Scanline created some 300 shots for Happy Gilmore 2, led by VFX Supervisor Dann Tarmy. Their VFX team worked on the film from January to May of the same year, reporting to the production’s VFX Supervisor, Marcus Taormina.

Tarmy shared some of Scanline’s experience below, specifically describing the most intensive aspect of creating the Maxi Golf Tour:
“The biggest challenge for Scanline lay in transforming worn, sun-bleached golf course locations—shot in autumn, long past their prime—into a vibrant, high-energy arena worthy of the great Happy Gilmore. We pushed every detail to the max: installing massive stage speakers, replacing the backlot with a lively festival scene, reshaping fairways, enriching the landscape with lush trees, and perfecting every patch of grass.

We then amplified the atmosphere by multiplying the crowd more than a thousandfold, packing every conceivable vantage point with fans eager to witness this legendary showdown. All of it was in service of showcasing that Happy’s comeback wasn’t just a return—it was a tale for the ages.”

Happy Gilmore 2 is now streaming on Netflix.
