Clemson, S.C. – Three Catamount women’s golfers made their Western Carolina debuts as the Catamounts raised the curtain on their 2025-26 season on Monday with 36 holes of action at Clemson’s Tiger Classic hosted at the par-72, 6,209-yard John E. Walker Golf Course.
Graduate transfer EC Niebauer made an immediate impact in her Catamount debut as she paced the team’s scoring five on Monday. The Queens University transfer from High Point, N.C., carded a 3-over par 75 with a pair of birdies on the opening 18 holes before posting a 4-over par 76 in round two, adding one more birdie to lead the team in sole possession of 31st overall. Niebauer finished with a score of 151, slipping six spots in the second round.
Sophomore Elsa Steinarsdôttir knocked five strokes off her opening round 80 by carding a second-round score of with a 3-over par round 75 on Monday. She carded birdies in both rounds to finish in a tie for 42nd, totaling a 155 overall. The North Alabama transfer put together a strong second round on Monday with 14 pars, including seven in a row in the midpoint of her second round.
WCU’s lone two returners, senior Sadler Miller and sophomore Annalee Caveney, both finished the opening event of the fall in a tie for 45th with matching scores of 156.
Miller opened the season with a 79, carding her lone birdie on the par-3 17th hole before she lowered her second-round score to 77 (+5) with another birdie to go along with 11 pars in her finale from the Palmetto State. Miller poured in a team-high 24 pars over the 36 holes of action.
Caveney opened the event with a 76, including birdies on the second and fourth holes, to card a 1-over on the front nine. The Raleigh, N.C. native posted an 80 in the second round with a pair of birdies coming on par-3s. Caveney took advantage of the par-3s on Monday as one of only 12 golfers in the field to card an under-par score over the 36 holes.
Sophomore Emily Rosenschein began her Catamount career finishing in a tie for 66th overall with scores of 83 and 88 (171) to round out the WCU side.
Clemson defended its home course with a six-shot victory over mountain-rival UNC Asheville on Monday. The Tigers and Bulldogs were the only two teams to post an under-par score for the 36 holes, as Clemson carded a 568 compared to a 577 from the Bulldogs. Both squads posted a 7-under-par (281) in the second round, but Clemson used a 1-under (287) opening round to edge UNC Asheville by six strokes. Charlotte placed in third (577), followed by Youngstown State (578) and Campbell (592), rounding out the top five on Monday.
Clemson’s Juliette Demeaux, Charlotte’s Pimchompoo Chaisilprungruang, and Youngstown State’s Neeranuch Prajunpanich all earned co-champion honors with matching scores of 7-under par for a total of 137 to each win individual medalist honors. Demeaux held a one-shot lead after the opening round before Chaisilprungruang and Prajunpanich came back in the second round to beat Demeaux by one, leading to the three-way tie.
Clemson secured three Top 10 finishes, which led to the team title, while also having a pair of individual competitors crack the top 10 for the Tigers.
Western Carolina returns to action Sept. 8-9, at The Southern, hosted by Georgia Southern at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Ga.
