Tommy Fleetwood at the Tour Championship – via PGATOUR.COM
On Sunday in Atlanta, Tommy Fleetwood showed his full character. Expected for several seasons, his first success on the PGA Tour came in the final tournament of the season: the Tour Championship. By winning, he also earned a spot in this new format, the FedEx Cup, becoming only the third player to combine this title with the Race to Dubai. The Southport player built his victory thanks to a formidable short game: par saves, pinpoint chips, and decisive birdies punctuated his round. Teeing off the final hole with a three-shot lead, Tommy was able to truly blow his ball onto the green once, with an easy two-putt for the victory.

His final opponent was Patrick Cantlay, who was within one shot of the lead after ten holes despite a disastrous start. The American never managed to catch up on the final holes. Scottie Scheffler, world number 1 and defending champion, alternated between brilliant birdies and uncharacteristic errors, including a tee shot into the water on the 15th, which resulted in a double bogey.

Norway’s Viktor Hovland shot a fine 63 to conclude his season and strengthen his Ryder Cup bid.

With this success, Fleetwood entered a new dimension. More than just a first American title, it was a symbolic victory that rewarded his perseverance and galvanized Europe ahead of the duel against the United States. He also collected a nice $10 million bonus reserved for the winner and climbed to a career-high ranking of sixth in the world.
