The debate over whether Keegan Bradley could serve as a player-captain for the United States team has intensified following his strong showing at the Tour Championship, where he finished seventh, five shots behind winner Tommy Fleetwood.

Trump makes call on Bradley captaincy

The possibility gained major momentum in recent hours after one of the most influential endorsements Bradley could receive – that of President Donald Trump. Writing on Truth Social, Trump said: “Keegan Bradley should definitely be on the American Ryder Cup team – as captain! He is an amazing guy. It will be a great Ryder Cup. At the invite of the PGA Tour, I will be there on tournament Friday!”

Bradley, however, has been cautious about an outcome not seen since golf legend Arnold Palmer captained and played for Team USA in the 1963 Ryder Cup. “When I finish here at the Tour Championship, I’ll talk with the vice-captains,” Bradley said. “We’ve put everything on hold the last few days because I think they didn’t want to bother me. But we’ll meet, and together we’ll make the final decision. I’ve seen a lot of Americans playing really well today, and that makes me happy.”

The 39-year-old will soon have to reveal his lineup, though he has given no indication of whether he will pick himself. “I’m not sure about the lineup yet for Wednesday, and I don’t think it’s a decision I need to make here. All I care about is Sunday of the Ryder Cup and winning that day. Then we’ll know if I made the right decision. Until then, we won’t. It could be a huge call, but whatever we decide, we’ll have to live with it. I love the guys on our team – they’re playing fantastic golf.”
