Tommy Fleetwood finally ended his long wait for a PGA Tour title, holding his nerve to win the Tour Championship and claim the FedEx Cup at the 164th attempt.
The 34-year-old Englishman, who had endured years of near misses in the United States, holed the decisive putt on the 18th green to seal a three-shot victory at 18 under par.
As the ball dropped, emotion swept over Fleetwood, who raised both arms to salute a crowd chanting his name before letting out a roar of relief and joy.
His close friend and Ryder Cup team-mate Justin Rose was right there to capture the moment, filming from greenside as Fleetwood embraced the enormity of the win – one that also delivered him the FedEx Cup trophy and a $10m (£7.4m) payday.

“When you’ve lost so many times, a three-shot lead down the last doesn’t feel like that many,” Fleetwood admitted afterwards with tears in his eyes.
“The fans are amazing, it makes me a bit emotional.
“I’m so lucky with the support I get – it’s so special and I hope everyone knows how grateful I am for it.”
For Fleetwood, this was more than just a victory.

It removed the unwanted label of being the ‘nearly man’ of American golf.
He had previously collected seven titles on the DP World Tour, but success on US soil had eluded him despite racking up 30 top-five finishes – six of them this year alone.
Twice earlier in the season he had led going into the final round but faltered on the home stretch.
“You just keep learning,” Fleetwood reflected.

“This probably wasn’t the most comfortable because, as they rack up, you obviously start to think of things.
“But I feel like I’ve had a great attitude throughout it all. x
“This is hopefully just one win, the first of many. You can’t win plenty if you don’t win the first one.”
His triumph made history: no player in the FedEx Cup era, which began in 2007, had ever claimed their maiden PGA Tour title at the season-ending Tour Championship.
Fleetwood also became only the second Englishman to win the event, following Rose’s success in 2018.
Over the course of the play-offs he was a model of consistency, finishing inside the top six every round and playing the 12 rounds in a combined 43 under par.
The victory drew praise from across sport.
