Tommy Fleetwood and his competitors at the Tour Championship are all wearing yellow ribbons during the final round. The Southport-born star is in the running for his first PGA title at the tournament in Atlanta, Georgia and shared the lead going into the crucial round.

About the ribbon being worn, the PGA Tour website said: “Players and caddies wore neon yellow ribbons during the final round of the TOUR Championship in honour of Ted Scott’s nephew, Joel, who is recovering from an injury.

“Scott, Scottie Scheffler’s longtime caddie, left the FedEx St. Jude Championship unexpectedly to attend to a private family matter and was not on the bag for Scheffler during his BMW Championship victory.

“Scott returned for the TOUR Championship this week. The Scott family has requested prayers for Joel at this time.

“The ribbons were visible on the hats of much of the field on Sunday at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

“Scott and Scheffler began the final round at 12-under, four strokes back of 54-hole leaders Tommy Fleetwood and Patrick Cantlay. With a victory at the TOUR Championship, Scheffler would become the first player to win the FedExCup back-to-back, after capturing golf’s ultimate prize in 2024.”

Tommy had to settle for a share of the lead going into the final round of the Tour Championship.

He held a three-shot lead thanks to a run of four straight birdies, including a successful 44-foot putt after a wayward tee shot on the seventh.

But the 34-year-old Englishman sent his six-iron off the tee into the water at the 15th, and a double-bogey five saw him dip from the outright lead to one shot behind Patrick Cantlay.

However, he showed great resilience to claw a shot back at the next, despite driving straight into a bunker, and another birdie at the 17th repaired the damage on his way to a battling round of 67.

But American Cantlay birdied the last to card a 64 and secure a tie at the top on 16 under.

US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley, who is weighing up whether to pick himself as a player at Bethpage next month, may have made that decision easier after a sparkling 63 kept him in contention.

Bradley is three off the lead, one behind fellow American Russell Henley, while world number one Scottie Scheffler is four back at 12 under.

At the time of writing, Tommy is -19 after 14 holes, three strokes ahead of Cantlay.
