Xander Schauffele opens up after a frustrating season, candidly reflecting on mental fatigue, disappointing performances, and what a true reset looks like for him heading into the Ryder Cup. He discusses putting changes, the need to step away from the game, and why “trying your hardest and playing like ass” is the worst combo on tour. A brutally honest take from one of golf’s most consistent players.

I have been trying for 40 years and still play like heiny EVERYTIME.
come on over to LIV. You'll be alot happier….And richer!
Your still a great player and person. Always cheer for you.
How about we end some of these stupid pressers. Same damn stupid questions time and time again. A bunch of questions about a bad season. What are we expecting for answers. How about we skip the questions and get these guys out signing for the kids. 100 kids out there today in the heat not able to get autographs but at least media can ask some stupid questions. Frustrating.
Auto-pilot interview for Z right there
Desperately needs some away time before ramping it up for the Ryder Cup
Reversion to the mean after having a great 2024. He is what he is. If anything, this was way worse than his previous years before the breakout. But he isn't a great player. He is a very good player. Winning a major, or two, does not necessarily make you great. Great players tend to win majors, but Xander doesn't have the magical gear. He is more of an elite grinder.
Yeah little hard on himself… incredible 2024. Good year in 2025 but hard when Scottie is kicking butt
Let's go Xander!!! We need you for the Ryder Cup!!!
It's called the Scheffler effect
Xander can take his $3.4 million in earnings this year and take a mini vacation. Then put your Ryder Cup face on.
I don't think the majority of golf fans realise just how tough it must be to play this game at the very highest level.
Living out of hotels, being away from family, grinding over your game and dealing with the realities of a ridiculously difficult game must be seriously hard on the brain.
European golf fan here – he is a class golfer and individual and I hope he finds what he needs. Want to see him playing well in New York (well not toooo well obvs) the Ryder Cup is at its best with 2 strong teams! Go well Xander!
Xander and a lot of commenters here are very hard on him. He's still the #3 ranked player in the world. Let's put things in perspective.
Doesn't sound like someone who has the game right now to compete this year in the Rider Cup.
He earned $3.4 million this season. Hardly a failure, bud.
Sometimes you try so hard at something you get in your own way. Once he frees his mind up a bit, he'll be back. Wouldn't mind seeing him put the Green Jacket on next year….
As you players have further destroyed the game this year through your greed and selfishness, forgive me if I can’t relate to your struggles and burnout playing a game on beautiful venues. Just how much did you deposit in the bank account this year, this very tough year where you played less well than you wanted? When was the last time you didn’t get exactly what you want?
Sometimes you just gotta take a break……….
Yipsmen
@Bobdoessports this kid needs a cameo. Let’s get those tires pumped. Time to go f-up some East Lake.
a man's man…..
That's what she said 🤣 🤣 🤣
hes always close!! used to get him confused with scheffler alot in the beginning- wish him well.
