He should. He’s been playing great and can bring it under pressure.

  2. unvvendel3000

Yes. He’s going to be a playing captain

  3. Dalai-Lama-of-Reno

Why not? One less guy to piss off, Plus, how baller would it be to pick yourself to play in Sunday singles with the Cup on the line?

    His irons/approach are dialed today

He said the only way he would be in the team is if he made it with points but I hope that feeling has changed. He has been playing so well the last few months that I seriously doubt anyone would be able to make the case he doesn’t deserve it and wouldn’t be on the team if it was another captain.

He should pick himself then elect Tiger captain

I think he will pick himself no question.

Personally not sure what is involved being captain behind the scenes but it feels like if he picks himself and USA lose it will be the only reason given for losing.

If they win though he will be a hero. I don’t think it’s the right move

I know what he said, that he wouldn’t pick himself, and he doesn’t want to give up being a captain, but the bottom line is he’s one of the best 12 American golfers rn. He needs to be a part of the team to give the USA the best shot at winning.

He’s playing his ass off today

  10. Howy_the_Howizer

He’s a betting man. He bets on himself in money games a lot. He will bet on himself. If he designates pairing changes after play starts to an Ass Capt it would be fine.

He absolutely should be on the team and would 100% be picked if anyone else was captain. It’s not his fault that the PGA tried to make up for the boy’s club in Rome by making him Captain was too soon.

If he picks himself all the pressure to win will be on him and less on his teammates so there is that, I guess

Why is it such a big deal for a captain to pick himself? What do the captains do that hinders them from playing?

  14. He should. I think if someone else were captain, they’d likely pick him. But at the same time that’s a ton of pressure to put on yourself. If he picks himself and doesn’t perform well, and the US loses, the choice will probably haunt him forever. He probably also doesn’t want to feel like he’s taking the spot away from someone else.

I’d probably make my other 5 picks and then ask some of the other guys what they think. It’s ultimately his decision, but it’s a team event, so you want everyone to be on the same page. If they all say “hell ya we want you out there with us,” then do it.

I think it was a weird pick to make him captain because he was obviously capable of playing. I think it would be a shame if he played because I think the non playing captains are an important part of the Ryder Cup, it’s an extra element to it that I enjoy. If Bradley plays and wins, it probably becomes a common thing to have playing captains. Feels less fun to me. I am a bit conflicted because Keegan is great and deserves to play, but long term I would prefer it if captains remained non playing.

Would be an insane move honestly.

The drop off between him and whoever you’d pick instead isn’t that much. And if you’re being a player, you’re not fully being a captain. There’s just not enough time to do both jobs.

  17. No one will accuse him of vanity if he picks himself, he’s absolutely earned it.

  18. Comfortable-Force595

Just had to add that last line

  19. marvinsface

Either way, there’s a lot of extra pressure to perform in that spot. If there’s not an obvious choice, he should pick himself and carry that weight the way a captain should.

I think it was a mistake to pick him as captain, because he’s is/was still a strong American player and we need him on the team.

I think he’s the captain and his responsibility is to be the captain and manage the team along with his assistant captains, and that’s what he should do.

I also think it bolsters all his captain’s picks by sending the message that he believes in them just as much as himself and we all know he’s playing great.

Not even a question of “if” anymore

As a European fan, I really hope he picks himself. It’ll be a clusterfuck and I’ll get the popcorn out.

  23. FastZX14

He will and he should. He should have been on the team in 23.

  24. AdComprehensive7879

he’s in a tough spot ngl, if the us loses, this decision one way or another will be criticized. but if the us wins, he’s gonna be remember fondly no matter what.

if i were him, i would just bet on myself and pick myself haha

  25. mat_srutabes

Keegan should call Zach Johnson and let him know he’s going with himself

  26. MetalHead_Literally

It’s so overblown what the captain has to do. He should absolutely pick himself.

  27. tinostar174

I always feel when they picked Bethpage as a venue for the Ryder Cup , it was Phil’s to captain , until he went to LIV.

  28. Ok_Confidence39

I think if he wins this week he will

  29. AdFormal3014

I have no problem if he picks himself. Honestly if the captain were anybody else they would definitely pick him.

But he needs to hand over his captain-ship. He can stay on in a small role but let Sneds take over (from what I hear Sneds would be the guy if Bradley gave it up).

Getting to the point he has to pick himself. Routing for Ben Simmons though. I’m picking up my Marshalls uni tomorrow.

Keegan reminds me of a grown up Malfoy
