Fleetwood said: ” I’ve always loved the Old Course and St Andrews, ever since I played the Links Trophy as an amateur. I enjoy playing each year with my teammate and close friend Ogden. St Andrews is a very special place that I look forward to returning to every year, and I love the atmosphere at the Dunhill Links, catching up with old friends and meeting new ones! It’s definitely one of the best weeks in the calendar. »
Matthew Fitzpatrick
2022 US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick won the Dunhill Links individual professional title and the team championship with his mother Susan in 2023. This year, he will play with his father Russell in hopes of matching that feat.
Padraig Harrington, a three-time major winner and two-time winner of the individual and team championships, in 2002 and 2006, alongside JP McManus, will attempt to equal Hatton’s record of winning three Dunhill Links titles.
Martin Kaymer had a stellar 2010, winning the U.S. PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, the KLM Open, and the Alfred Dunhill Links, becoming the first player since Tiger Woods in 2006 to win three consecutive tournaments in one year. He also won the 2014 U.S. Open at the challenging Pinehurst course by an eight-stroke margin.
Patrick Reed won the Masters in 2018 and finished third earlier this year, behind Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose. He also finished fourth at the 2018 US Open and second at the 2017 US PGA Tour.
Australian Cam Smith has a strong reputation in the heart of golf. In 2022, he came from four holes down to shoot a 64 in the final round of the 150th Open Championship and win the Claret Jug. This intense afternoon will make him one of the favorites for this year’s Alfred Dunhill Links, which he is playing for the first time.
Cameron Smith
He stated : ” Winning The Open on the Old Course is every golfer’s dream, and it’s an unforgettable moment. Teeing off on the 18th hole at Dunhill will remind me of all that, and I can’t wait to play it. It would be an incredible double if I win, but the field looks very strong, so I’ll have to give it my best. »
Other famous golfers who have graced the fairways over the years include Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Ernie Els, Justin Rose, Sir Nick Faldo, Louis Oosthuizen, Lee Westwood, Colin Montgomerie, Paul Lawrie, Ryan Fox, Billy Horschel and Tony Finau.
The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is a celebration of links golf, played on the Old Course St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns, three of the world’s greatest links courses, from 2 to 5 October, culminating in the final day on the Old Course.
With a prize fund of US$5 million, the Alfred Dunhill Links features two distinct competitions: an individual professional tournament for the world’s best golfers and the Team Championship in which professionals are paired with amateur golfers, creating a unique atmosphere.
This is the 40th year that Alfred Dunhill has supported golf at St Andrews – first with the Alfred Dunhill Cup in 1985 and then with the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in 2001. During this time, millions have been raised for charity.
In June 2011, the Alfred Dunhill Links Foundation was established as the official foundation of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. It is committed to developing young amateur golfers in Scotland and South Africa and also supports the University of St Andrews and the St Andrews Pilgrim Foundation, which restores and preserves the city’s historic monuments.
Admission is free for the first three days, without a ticket. Only tickets for the final day, Sunday, October 5, on the Old Course, are payable.
