The Midlands is the heartland of England, bringing together rich manufacturing history alongside spectacular natural landscapes.

It’s also home to many exceptional golf courses, including some of the finest inland layouts in the country, but given this depth of quality, choosing which ones to play can be a challenge.

We have consulted the Golfshake Course Section and its more than 300,000 independent reviews to see which venues everyday golfers have rated most positively.

Looking at the updated Top 100 Rankings for the West Midlands and East Midlands, we have brought together all of the locations that boast a minimum rating of 4.50, which have been drawn from at least 25 individual reviews.

Take a look below to see the clubs and resorts that visiting golfers have placed above the rest!

Beau Desert Golf Club

Beau Desert

Location: Staffordshire

Golfshake Rating: 4.78

Review Comment: “The layout is excellent, and it was in very good condition. The greens are extremely challenging – fast, tricky to read, and exactly what you’d expect from a course of this quality. The fairways demand accuracy, but one frustration was that even a well-struck drive could easily run off into gorse or heather, which proved very penal and made scoring difficult. That said, it certainly tests every part of your game.”

Ladbrook Park Golf Club

Location: Warwickshire

Golfshake Rating: 4.75

Review Comment: “Beautiful course with some of the best greens around. Very fast with some tricky pin positions. Will play again.”

Wrekin Golf Club

Location: Shropshire

Golfshake Rating: 4.70

Review Comment: “A stunning course set against the backdrop of the Wrekin near Telford. A very challenging course both in terms of play and physically. We hired a buggy which took the strain. Not played here for a few years, but it’s just as tough. Enjoyable but well worth getting to the clubhouse. Great bar, friendly staff. Would recommend!”

Burghill Valley Golf Club

Burghill Valley

Location: Herefordshire

Golfshake Rating: 4.62

Review Comment: “What a wonderful golf club. Lovely clubhouse, superb pro shop and the course, although showing signs of the recent dry weather on the fairways, is very good, considering. Kings Norton Golf Club

Location: Worcestershire

Golfshake Rating: 4.57

Review Comment: “This is a lovely course, beautifully laid out, challenging in parts and well worth playing. Even the par 3s here are difficult in parts. Split into three nine hole courses, red, blue and yellow. Had a great game here and finished at the extended clubhouse for some well deserved drinks.”

Leek Golf Club

Location: Staffordshire

Golfshake Rating: 4.56

Review Comment: “The best bit about Leek GC is that even if you’re having a bad round, the course is so enjoyable that there’s a chance you won’t even care. The views are great, the holes are all lovely, and greens, tees and fairways are all in really good condition.”

The greens are the best I have played on all year. Very true and a nice pace. They are very tricky to putt on due to the undulations but nevertheless still enjoyable to putt on. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending Blackwell.”
