Hello! I am new to golf, my friends said I did surprisingly really good for my first time and suggested I get into the sport! Currently looking at this on Facebook marketplace for $500.. clubs are used, bag is brand new. Is it worth it?

I’m looking for a beginner set that will be good to learn and play with, and hopefully last me a couple years as I’ll only be playing casually for work tournaments / girls trips!

IMO not worth it. Those clubs are really old. You can get the Callaway edge set on sale at Costco for like $600 CAD

Not close to worth it. Maybe for $200. Those are very old. You can get a brew starter set for that amount.

Although it’s very clean, it is also dated. I would say 350 CAD max.

  4. I’m in the US, and I’d agree this is a little high. If the seller is willing to negotiate, I’d offer like $200USD and settle at $250/$275USD.

It’s older technology but the woods were good when they came out. I’d don’t know as much about the irons. Nothing inherently bad with older technology my iron set is from the late 1990 (Ping iSi) and I score in the 70s, just not worth paying a lot for. The big thing to look into is what are the shafts. You most likely need a softer flex, unless you have a fast swing speed and are pretty strong. If this set has “lady” or “senior” flex marked on the shafts it should be good. Of course I’m completely stereotyping on that, just knowing what most of my women golfer friends play.

Don’t do it – you can go on sites like Golf Avenue or Global Golf and put together a much more modern set.

  6. If that’s going for $500 then I should be able to sell my clubs for $5000. This is a terrible deal

  7. Not sure what the conversion is USD to CAD at this point, but I’d keep an eye on marketplace and Craigslist. For $350 USD you can probably find a really nice starter set.

Entirely way too much. For $500 you can get a 3-4 year old premium set. Or brand new a decent name brand starter set for slightly more

  9. Agree with what everyone else is saying- this is too much and you can’t certainly find a newer set online for cheaper.

No. I hope the person selling them to you isnt considered a trusted friend

  11. OP here! Thank you all for your help! Im curious, if I were to try and bargain for a lower price… would these clubs be worth it? Comments are saying these are super old, but does age of clubs truly matter? If so, should I be on the search for clubs made in the last few years?

The clubs are in great condition. And its a full set. And comes with a good condition golf bag.

Considering all that if i was fine with the make and model id pay about $200 for that set tops.

So yes $500 is too much…..

Way too much, what part of Canada? I have a set I could put together for much less!

    Don’t buy these

Got my wife a top flite complete set brand new for $275 yesterday on Dicks

  15. You can get a brand new VICE starter set for $600 CAD and apparently they’re good clubs

For $600 I’d sell my qi10 driver, ping 425 fairway woods and my mizuno 919 jpx irons, wedges. (You would have to purchase a putter though)

Way too much! That’s a $150 set at the most. The bag is worth more than the clubs.

    Keep looking.
