Scottie Scheffler will compete in this week’s BMW Championship without his regular caddie, Ted Scott, his agent confirmed to the PGA Tour Communications team on Tuesday.

At last week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship, Scott caddied for Scheffler for the first three rounds before returning to his Louisiana home on Saturday night due to a family emergency. Scheffler was two shots behind third-round leader Tommy Fleetwood going into the final round.

PGA Tour chaplain and close Scheffler family friend Brad Payne travelled from Dallas to Memphis to caddie for Scheffler’s final round. This was the second time Payne had stepped in for Scott recently, having previously caddied during the third round of the 2024 PGA Championship when Scott attended his daughter’s high school graduation. Scheffler finished T3, scoring a final-round three-under 67 in Memphis, one shot short of the playoff between Justin Rose and J.J. Spaun, which Rose won.

This week, Scott will remain with his family, and Scheffler will be joined by Michael Cromie, who typically caddies for Chris Kirk, at Caves Valley.

Kirk finished T9 at the FedEx St. Jude but fell one shot short of the top 50, finishing 51st, missing this week’s field. He will have time off until the FedEx Cup Fall series begins in September with the Procore Championship in Napa, California.

At the BMW Championship, FedEx Cup points are worth quadruple their regular-season value. After the tournament, the top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings will receive a bonus payout from a $20 million purse and advance to the Tour Championship at East Lake, where they will compete for a $40 million purse and the FedEx Cup trophy.

A victory this week would be Scheffler’s first PGA Tour win without Scott as his caddie.
