The weather has cooled off a bit but some of the scores in the Niagara-on-the-Lake Golf Club’s weekly leagues have been heating up.
In last Thursday’s men’s league, club championship runner-up Ricky Watson and Paul Dickson tied for low gross at 1-over 37 while Jeff Jacques had a net score of 30.
Mark Wheaton won an $85 next skin with a birdie on #3 and Ken Willms earned one on #8.
Gross skins went to Dickson on #2, Harry Huizer #4, Glen Murray #5 and Watson #8.
Marty Nixon made the longest putt on #2, Mike Sanders won long drive on #3, Joe Doria was closest to the pin on #4 and John Sobil did it on #9.
The low scoring carried over to the weekly Woofs league as super seniors champ Ted Carmichael shot 37. Other sharpshooters were Norm Kerr and Don Allen (38) and Mike Eagen and Murray (39).
Todd Watson had low net with 31. Hidden hole birdies were recorded by John Reynolds (#2) and Stein Hanson (#4).
In the women’s 18-hole league Tuesday, the scoring binge continued.
Maria Townley won the Margaret Berry Trophy competition (for best two of three net scores for players over 60).
Lisa Allen took low gross with 82, followed by Louise Robitaille (85), Townley (89), and Ginny Green and Diana Dimmer (90).
Low net winners were: Ria Rosenberg and Allen (65), Townley (66), Gayle Tanner (68) and Marg Ketcheson and Rachel Debon (71).
Barb Hastings was closest to the pin on #4 and birdies went to Cheryl Yamamoto (#2) and Ketcheson (#13).
Robitaille had the fewest putts with 28, followed by Allen (30), Tanner and Townley (31) and Judy Mantle and Green (32).
In the women’s nine-hole league, Suzanne Watson had the best low gross score with 42 while Patty Garriock, Lucy Brookhouser, Joan Maida and Penny Green all tied for low net with 33.
Sally Miller was closest to the pin on #4 and Garriock had the closest shot on #9.
And Susan Wery had her best career round on Monday in the business women’s league, shooting 43.
Other winners were Susan DiFruscio (longest drive on #1), Sally Basmajin (closest to the 150 marker on #2), Christine Merza (closest to pin on #4), Danielle Waters (longest putt on #7) and Nikki Jenkins (closest to pin on #9 in two).
