The clubhouse in Heron Road is expected to be demolished by the end of October, a planning application said

The knocking down of a former golf clubhouse, that a council said had become a “hotspot” for antisocial behaviour, has been approved – with its demolition being part of plans for an estate.

Sandwell Council has backed the latest part of a multimillion-pound plan to build 190 homes on the former Brandhall golf course in Oldbury.

The work for the site also includes a replacement Causeway Green Primary School and a 67-acre public park.

A planning application to build 190 homes was approved by the council in 2023, despite receiving more than 200 objections.

The authority had originally looked to build 550 homes on the course, but cut its plans by two-thirds after a backlash from campaigners looking to protect the green space.

The clubhouse is expected to be knocked down by the end of October, according to the council’s planning application.

The demolition of the boarded-up building in Heron Road, which closed in 2020, was an “important first step in bringing the new park masterplan to life”, the authority said.

A council report last November said the clubhouse needed to be demolished as an “urgent priority” to cut the authority’s maintenance and security bill and reduce the risk of further vandalism.

The cost of knocking down the clubhouse, which was vandalised last summer, was said to be £187,000.
