A month after a man died after being struck by lightning on a golf course in New Jersey, another golfer was critically injured after he was struck by lightning.

According to a report by television station WABC, a 36-year-old man was playing Pinch Brook Golf Course in Florham Park when a lightning strike hit him. The report says it happened just after 6 p.m. on Sunday. Several other golfers rushed to his aid and performed life-saving efforts.

The report says these good Samaritans said the man lost consciousness and stopped breathing. Later, first responders performed CPR and he was then rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Simon Mariani of Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, died on July 16 as a result of injuries that he sustained six days prior while he was playing golf at Ballyowen Golf Club in Hardyston, New Jersey, about an hour northwest of Manhattan. His death was announced via an obituary.

Lightning kills about 20 people in the U.S. each year, and hundreds more are severely injured, according to the National Weather Service. Golf has contributed to about 3 percent of lightning deaths since 2006, according to data compiled by Jensenius.
