In my third season playing golf. 21.5 handicap. Had my first lessons in my adult life over the past few months.

Saturday was a difficult morning. Mariah, my cat who has been with me since November 2014, had to bed put down following complications from lung cancer. She was such a great cat.

After such an emotional morning, I needed to walk a round of golf to clear my head, so I got a mid-afternoon round as a single.

That brings us to Saturday on hole #12 par three at my local municipal airport golf course. 148 yards. Grabbed my 9i. Hit it a bit fat so only goes 135 yards without a lot of backspin. The ball hits the front fringe and rolls onto the green toward the hole and disappears.

I didn’t say anything, but knew it had to be close if not in. The random other single I was playing was far more confident that it did.

Walked up to the green, still didn't see the ball. Walked up to the hole, looked inside, and there it was! High fives and pictures ensued. The random attested my scorecard.

Funnily enough, the weekend before this HIO occurred was my first eagle ever, so have had an eagle two weekends in a row!

From saying goodbye to my cat to saying hello to my first HIO, what a fucking Saturday. What a wild ride.

TL;DR got my first hole-in-one the same day my cat died

Pretty sure that was fe-line intervention. A final tip of the cap from her for being a great cat dad. Sorry for your loss – congrats on achieving something in year 3 that people chase for a lifetime!

Sorry for your loss. It is always an honor and privilege to have known a pet worth the grief <3

As a cat dad, I’m devastated for you. As a golfer, fuck you.

Condoleances and congrats. Stories like this always remind me of John Lennons song; nobody told us that there would be days like these.

A hole in one would not fill the hole left by losing my cat. Sorry about your friend OP.

I’m sorry about losing your cat. Mine had the same issue too. It sucks and I also played golf to clear my head after. No hole in one sadly.

I clicked through the pictures before opening the thread and immediately was thinking “he better have found that cat that morning!”. Sorry for your loss but congrats on your HIO. I hit one as a single when I was 16, I was not lucky enough to have connected with another single before it happened…

Great story, sorry about the kitty. We had a calico growing up, think she reached 12 or 13, one day she just suddenly went weak, and blind, it was jaundice….we put her down

21.5 with eagles and aces? Sounds like you are applying yourself , love the game, and should be lowering that index on a daily basis

Aww man sorry you long a best friend but there’s a little glimmer of hope that everything will be alright and you’ll still find joy.

As someone who’s golfed for 20+ years without an ace, fuck you.

As a human being with a heart and a love for animals, I’m very sorry for your loss.

    But still, fuck you.

Golf is truly weird like this. I found out a close friend died while on a bucket list trip to Bandon Dunes. The next day had a tap in Eagle on a Par 4 at Old Mac. A month later on the day of his celebration of life, hole out from 70 yards for eagle again. It’s a weird, spiritual game sometimes.

I’m sorry for your loss friend. I went through the same thing recently and it tore my heart to pieces. Your cat was looking out for you for sure.

Sorry for the loss of your kitty, mine is currently screaming in my ear for food, but he’s also 13 years old so I know I’ve only got so many years left with him. Congrats on the HIO, a lovely parting gift from her!
