There’s already a mainstay in Canary Islands golf. Acaymo, a pre-Benjamin player with a Guanche name, took home a first prize last weekend from Adriel Sosa in the second round of the 2025 Canarias Family Golf Circuit, held at Maspalomas Golf. Acaymo and Adriel Sosa took the win with 14 points. Thirty-six pairs competed in the tournament, marked by intense heat and a welcome rain shower.

Acaimo, or Acaymo, was a 15th-century Guanche mencey who ruled the kingdom of Tacoronte in Tenerife, during the European conquest of the Canary Islands. Although the poet Antonio de Viana mentions him as “Acaymo Daniaga” in his work, modern historians doubt the veracity of this name, as it seems that Viana took it from the mencey of Güímar, a leader from another region of the island.

In the senior category, José Pedro and Paula Núñez emerged as overall champions of the second round of the Canarias 2025 Family Golf Circuit, held at Maspalomas Golf. The father-daughter duo overcame difficult weather conditions to win with a total of 20 points in the Under-17 category. The Family Circuit, which seeks to promote family golf, crowned several winners in its various categories: Under-19: Jaime and Elena Frade won with 3 points; Under-8: Jorge and Jaime Pérez achieved victory with 2025 points. In addition to the victories by category, special prizes were awarded. Alba Medina won the award for closest ball to the flag on hole XNUMX, while Javier Veza did the same on hole XNUMX. The third round of the Canarias XNUMX Family Golf Circuit will be held next September at the Real Club de Golf de Tenerife.
