Xander Schauffele admitted he feels “mentally tapped” after a tough stretch of golf, bluntly adding that “playing like ass is the worst.” The World No. 3 spoke after his round at the BMW Championship as the Ryder Cup looms as he failed to make East Lake for the Tour Championship.
How do you spend this next month trying to kind of get your game in in the right shape for that? Probably more more mental than than than anything else. Uh feel like I just need to sort of reset a little bit. Um cool off a little bit and just get back to a a healthy mental place where, you know, I want to like, you know, sit down and and and work really hard again. You know, right now I’m mentally, you know, a little tapped. Is it hard to do that reset just in the flow of a season when tournaments just keep coming and coming? Uh, no. I mean, you just you’re just I mean, everyone out here is trying really hard. You know, there’s nothing worse than than trying your hardest and and playing like ass. So, it’s the worst combo. And, you know, some of us do it, some of us don’t. But, um, it’s been a while since I have and and uh, you know, I I did it for a few weeks now and it sucked. But, yeah, you know, it’s going to be nice to to sort of sit back and and sort of be at home and away from golf. What does a reset look like for you? For you personally, it’s not golfing. Pretty simple. Yeah, not not golfing. Try not to think about golf. Just hang out hang out at home with with my wife and my dogs and um Yeah. Don’t even look at the clubs. Um looked like you changed putters today. I did. Yeah. Did you feel good about I mean you made made some more putts today and just how’d that feel? Yeah, I mean it wasn’t really going to do anything, you know. I’m just like I said just trying to get to a place mentally where I’m I’m okay and you know trying to have fun. So today was trying to you know it didn’t matter. I could have shot 59 and and not gotten it next week. So um pretty depressing to think of it like that. But that’s how I thought when I woke up. So I figured might as well have something different to look at and and scare my old putter into into working again at some point. When was the last time you changed putters? I don’t know. You’d have to ask like someone from Golf Works or something. I’m not sure. It’s been read forever and it’s been the same one forever. Are you going to plan to play Procore? I know a lot of the RDER Cup guys may go out there. Yeah. You know, there’s I don’t I don’t know how many guys have signed up or not, but I wouldn’t say there’s an expectation for us to play, but a lot of us do want to play just to to, you know, stay fresh um knock off some rust. So, you I’ll have a even longer break. So, um you know, we’ll see how that goes. Thanks, Andrew. And all right. All right. All right.
