Longford GAA are set to host the sixth edition of its annual golf classic over two days on August 29 and 30. The event is organised by Club Longford, the supporters fundraising arm of Longford GAA.
Proceeds from this year’s classic will go towards the development of the new centre of excellence at Pearse Park.
Councillor Martin Skelly, a member of the organising team, has underlined the importance of the new project stating: “It’s crucial for promoting Longford GAA, new pitches, clubrooms and a host of new facilities which will help maximise the potential of both our elite and young athletes hoping to play for Longford.”

Cllr Skelly, who is a former county board chairman, added: “We’ve a strong array of prizes this year, helped by our local sponsors Flynn and Lynch life and pensions Ltd, Knightstone Construction Ltd, The Rustic Inn and Cooneys Hotel amongst others.”
The councillor also highlighted a new addition to the prize pot this year. “We’re trying to be as inventive as we can, apart from the normal prizes, there will be a €500 prize this year for the best GAA club based off their 3 lowest scores combined.”
This, he said, should add an added component to the two-day event which the organisers hope will attract between 40 and 50 teams.
Chairman of Longford GAA Supporters Club, Derek Sheridan says the fundraising event is vital for the county. “The Longford GAA supporters golf classic is an important weekend in the social calendar, it gives people who live away a chance to come home, many friendships will be renewed over the weekend, we’re delighted to be able to use the magnificent facilities at Longford Golf Club.”
The event, on August 29 and 30, will be held in association with Longford Native Michael Brewster who recently purchased Viewmount House & Corkman Bill Murphy who has also been a strong contributor to Longford GAA.
There’s a host of corporate sponsors on hand to offer their support once again this year.
Joe O’Reilly of Castlehorn Developments and Paul Rowley from Admore will be the official course sponsors. John and Robert Mahon from J.R Mahon’s will sponsor the signage whilst Colm Dalton from Value Centre will be covering food and beverages.
“All are welcome to enter, come play and enjoy a round of golf for a good cause, the facilities are top notch so nobody will be disappointed when they come to Longford Golf Club,” said Cllr Skelly who has also thanked 2025 captain of the course Ronan McNevin for his warm welcome and cooperation in helping to organise the event.
Teams can enter at a cost of €400 (per team). Corporate donations are also encouraged where tee-box’s and green can be sponsored for €200 apiece to help Longford GAA. The event comes just a month after Club Longford and Longford GAA’s successful car draw where a Toyota Rav4 or €50,000 in cash was up for grabs as they continue their fundraising initiative.
