Round two of Vodacom Origins began on Saturday morning as Liam Grehan and Rowan Lester completed their rounds just before the suspension of play due to darkness.

With the projected cut at 2-over-par, 12 players are due to come back Sunday morning to complete their rounds before the final round takes place.  Both Irishmen will be happy not to have an early start on Sunday as their work in round two should have them safely into the final round as both sit inside the cutline at one-over-par for the week and in a tie for 34th.

It was a day of mixed emotions for Mullingar’s Liam Grehan as the 29-year-old could not better his round one score of one-under-par.  A disappointing double bogey on the par-4 third hole came early, but Grehan responded well with a couple of birdies on the fifth and sixth holes.

More bogeys and birdies followed to see Grehan at even par for the round before another disappointing double bogey on the par-3 16th as the Sunshine Tour rookie posted a two-over-par second round. Rowan Lester had some work to do after a three-over-par round one saw him on the wrong side of the leaderboard, but the Dubliner is bound to be happy with his round two display.

Like Grehan, Lester made a sore double bogey on the third hole as well as some dispiriting bogeys that could have dropped the 29-year-olds head, but Lester showed what he is capable of under pressure as he made seven birdies with, five of them coming on the back nine – when he needed them most, posting a two-under-par second round.

Both sit nine strokes behind the leader Yurav Premlall, as the South African posted a six-under-par round to take him to eight-under for the week. With six birdies in the last six holes, the 22-year-old carded the lowest round of the day, dominating the tough Parys golf course.

The conclusion of round two is set to commence at 6:00am (Irish time) Sunday morning, with round three taking place after.
