Just four miles outside the city of Belfast is this beautiful hidden gem. And today I’m going to be taking on their pro from here over nine holes. Andy, welcome to the channel. Let’s go. [Music] Right. So, we’re going to have our match. It’s myself versus Andy. You’re the uh one of the coaching pros here, aren’t you? And you’re on the shop as well. We’re playing the Bali Drain course today. There’s there’s three nines, aren’t there? Yeah. Drum bridge, ballet drain, and a additional nine holes. Eden Derry. Eden Derry. Is that sort of like the slightly easier one? Good for the juniors. That’s it. Yeah, exactly. So, ballet drain is the back nine of the championship golf course starting on 10. And we’re going to be having a stroke play match. Um, you will have obviously watched every single video of mine. Absolutely. Of course. Yeah. Subscriber. And um what what do you think scoring wise? What would you say? What would you be happy around here with? Uh if you’re in the R level park, good nine holes. We have a few new green complexes which I’ll show you and they are Augustaesque. They’re tough. Yeah, they look nicely manicured as well and shaved. So we’re going to have a a head-to-head stroke play. I think I mean judging by this first hole that looks tight. Looks like there’s a lot of land but a lot of um tight lines through trees. So yeah, you don’t want to be missing right. Um I don’t think I think Andy beats me by two. Okay. All right. at and he shoots one under. One under. I’m going to go for one over for me. I’ll let you go first, sir. It’s the 10th hole, 406 yards, which is par4. Looks like it sort of meanders its way from right to left up a little hill. There’s a huge fur tree just hugging the left, which is very, very daunting. But this place literally where are we where if the crow flies Andy, if we going this way is Belfast? Uh, pretty just a bit more that way. About 4 miles outside of the city. That’s right. Beautiful parkland course. Make sure you check it out. We’ll put some um um description stuff down below. Some links for you. It’s quite the sight when you drive in here. Right then, sir. Play well. Normally, when you think of island, I always think of like links, but this hidden gem totally hidden gem. This looks uh like it’s going to be quite the uh quite the golf course. also give you a little bit of info. It was an old stately home here. Is it on 300 acres this place? 330 acres. 330. Wow. Yeah. Back to the golf. Right then, Andy. Okay. You have a bit of work. I thought mine was okay. It’s just gone a little bit too far. And the green’s out up here. And there’s a huge bunker in front here. I almost might try and hook this round. That’s a good T-shot there, isn’t it? Mhm. It’s tight. That’s a uh I was see we said before to someone playing alone. They were like, “Good luck driving through the trees.” It’s such a tight driving course. Right. I’m going to hook a little seven iron. Get this round the green and chip in a putt. Oh, did that bounce up a bit more? I actually thought that was going to be really good there. Well executed. It sort of caught the bank maybe to take a skip off it. Yeah, hit the bank and clattered some other trees. I feel like the the vibe is going to be trees around here. This is a local knowledge at its best. Just a straight hit towards the green. About 14 140 it looks. Now have you I was going to say have you got GPS? Yeah. It’s 206 from here. 140 back is 140. Yeah. 128 middle. Yellow is middle. Yellow pins are middle. That’s nice. That’s nice. Move it slightly after the pin. You see it? Yeah. No the trees right in my way and there’s like a little took a took a bind. Seen a bind. Yeah. Ray’s over the bunker, but it should be left on the left edge of the green, shouldn’t it? Yeah. Right. Where’s yours? Must be over the back. Right then. Chip and a putt. Chip and a putt. More of a pitch and a putt. This is about about 35 up to this flag. Beautiful shot. Nicely done. We’ll take it. Yeah, good strike. Andy’s actually been juicing lately. flown the green. Go. Bit of a dead bounce. Wasn’t far away. No. Tell you what the f like the way when you look back up the hole here. The way the fairway rolls and the cut of the semi- rough. There’s some lovely definition around here. What a great golf course. Does it host many like do you get any events played here or Oh, we’ve had loads. So had the ladies British amateur stroke play was here back was here we have had Irish close had the PGA men’s seniors. Wow. Maybe 20 years back that was wow. Uh so yes we’ve had plenty plenty of tournaments. So some serious stuff here. Stay up. How long have you had that? Oh it’s actually one of the shop rentals. Believe it or not, it has That’s a rental car. Well, no. It’s It’s just in one of the rental bags, but it is. It is an original. It’s a prototype. Yeah. That’s got to be worth a few quid, that surely. It’s actually not. No, is it not? They can’t do anything with it. It’s too worn down. It’s had too many three wiggles. It has. It has. So, the the top edge is too worn down. They could They couldn’t do anything with that effect in the trillium. Wow. Still a mega thing that is beautiful, isn’t it? I know. I know. A real classic. We got five new green complexes. Right. Is that Is that the green up in the on the Yeah, very slight dog leg. You see the bunker? Just right of the bunker. Okay. Yeah. 384. Seen a few of those in lessons. Oh, yes. Loving this. It’s weird. you think of like Ireland and Scotland and you do think links but it’s like quite nice when you get a a really nice manicured parkland especially over the big sight of land when we get down to like 14 15 you’ll see this big lake that you play around so I’m excited by that and it’s nice little change from a lynx oh beautiful I’ll take that massive doesn’t play loads Andy cuz he’s always peach and gave us the big not played this year spiel. Still got the shots. Still hitting buttery little cuts down there. So, this is a new green. Yeah. Are they going to do all of them or um haven’t I haven’t officially heard, but I I would imagine reading between the lines. That’s the plan. Yeah. So, that’s a great whole line. 160 middle. 160 middle. As far as you trust me after the last one. It was actually only 84 on the last. It’s to the flag. Yeah. 175. I’m getting flag. Yeah. Okay. To be fair, it says the back here is 178. Is it a pin to go for? 175 tucked behind what looks to be a bunker you could bury an elephant in. Um, depends how brave you’re feeling. Yeah. Okay. Heart of the green. Like it. Like it. 58. Got to keep it under this little canopy. Going to go at the end of the uh the roof that we can see with a little cut. Eight iron. What a bad strike that is. Get past it. Easy up and down from there. Is it? I hope so. Oh, shouldn’t be too bad. You don’t have to be pin high. You kind of I was thinking, oh, I’m going to aim left and If I do leak it, it’ll go onto the flag. I can’t miss it. Right. Surely near side yourself. Missed it right. Right. I’ve left mine on the dance floor, but he can he hear the music. So, I’m just going to pop my chip up, land it seven or eight ft shy, and just let it run in. And then from there, see what happens. No. Delightful. I thought that had to go in. Don’t know what it is about this golf course. Like the sort of lush nature of it. Just fancied like both those two chips. I’m like, “Yeah, they’re getting it.” I don’t remember this being so big. What a green. Wow. Huge green. That’s going to come back to me now. Great pace. Okay. Yeah, really good pace. Questionable line. It’s a stretch cuz like where when I’m looking at that here, I was thinking it was going to come to me and then really go that way. It’s a hell of a green that is it, isn’t it? For for a 360 yard hole. Yeah. You wanted to get some um some days where the pins down at the front there. I bet there’s some real disasters on there. That false front. Yeah. Yeah. Right then. Roll it in. Roll it. Oh, not even close. I think you got me there. Take your time. Knock him. Easy. Wish I have my returns in like that. I’m breakicking it over this one. Well, in that was very good up and down. Might join me alone. I think that’s the first time I’ve had 100% up and downs. Wow. 192 192 nothing for being short because it looks like there’s a load of chasms chasmous back left bit of it I’ve got five iron here we breeze against isn’t there yeah just try and hit it up the middle get it on the dance floor oh hit the toe more matt soft bounce soft bounce in my whole time of being here. That is the only ball that has not kicked 40 yards left. You got a real meal. Look at the Irish. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, that was a real try and save it at impact swing. It’s going to be a tricky up and down, but you know the current theme of the video. Call me Shane Lowry out here in Ireland. Turn over. Didn’t move. Great strike. Just stayed there. Changed sights as well, hasn’t it? A few times. It has has changed sights a couple of times. So, we moved up here at our 50th anniversary a few years back um with the Valley Drain uh nine. Yeah. It was originally a couple of miles down the road. Um, and the the lake the lake is a glacier lake. Is it? Yeah. Oh, wow. So, there has been plans to try and expand. Uh, but they’re just so frightened because you don’t want to puncture in the lake disappear. So, you’ve got lots of green to work with. I am somewhere near this white steak. Again, you got to be a we bit creative, right? Nice torch. That’s it. Yeah, good shot. Interesting one for me. Like a 30 yard little pitch. It’s not that too bad, but we shall see. You’ve got the peaceful. Yeah. It’s gorgeous. Summer evening, nine halls. What’s what’s a green fee around here now? Uh so 150. We’re 150. Yeah. That premium like summer summer rate. Yeah. Nice. All right. We’ll take that. First cast. I think he was just uh luring us in with the first few holes. Thought I’m going to just uh tell him I’ve not played. Then I’m going to just bring him back. Only one in it after three holes. Good strike. We’re over. Get in there. We’ve got it into wind as well. It’s just a massive lad. 148 flag. Looks like there’s a big Again, I tell you what, it’s well bunkered around here. Couple couple of big bunkers there just right of the pin. Brilliant. Oh, he’s pulled it. It’s all right. Rond edge, right? One 116 for me. Slightly uphill. Serious amount. I can’t get over how big. And there’s a park next door. Is there Lady Dixon Park straight across the road, sir? How big and Lady Dixon? Good question. Huge. Well, big. This is 330 acres. I’ll come back to that. I’m not actually. And I would imagine that’s what double the size. Uh could be. Yeah. Very spacious. Just vast here. It’s lovely. Do you know what it reminds me of? Actually, you remember the back nine of Barewood. Getting Barewood. Have you ever been Barewood Lakes? It’s where like Mazuno Tour fitting center is. It’s It looks Yeah, they’ve got a lake like this and it’s similar. You get loads of pines. Mhm. It’s got a very very similar feel to it. Right. I’ve got 50 out cuz I can give it everything here. 116. This is a 125 club, but we’re going a little bit uphill and a tad into. So, let’s try and get him close. Be the number short. Yeah, it might be a tad short. I didn’t quite get it there or thereabouts, though. I think that’s good. Normally, I’d miss the green from there. Years gone by. First green hit. You are Yeah, you’re right there. Is it trying to salt in my wounds as the cameraman? [Applause] Not ideal. Right up the hill. It did pitch probably another 10T up and it’s zipped back down here. So, we’ve got about 25 ft up the hill. Bit of gentle right to left in it. This should be a nice little bruisy bonus if we can get this. Very good. Right. Nearly there. It’s nearly there. Be a few broken dreams if you just leaked it in those trees off the tea, wouldn’t they? It just goes dark. It’s such a dense layer. It’s so many trees. Like night time. Right. Come on. Roll it in. What’s the uh this script here then where we sort of aim it on the corner of the bunker over the bunker that we draw a little fade with something a bit shorter. But yeah, you get the the bomb draw over the bunker and could have a wedge in. Oh, I’ll take that. Pure class. That works. That was mega. Is that like A1? That is. Yeah, that’s a good line. Follow that. Just cuz you’d hit me on the last. Right, I’m going to do you. Right, then I’m going to go more treelined hugged. Oh no, so far out the toe. It’s all pretty open down there. Yeah, I’ve seen it bounce a couple of times, but wow. So, generally speaking around here, draw is not good. Lost ball left in the first, second, sixth, seventh, ninth, 13, 14. So a friend, friendly fad 17. It is definitely is the the shell I have around here. That works for sure. We’ll work it out. Just not on this one. Yeah, exactly. Dog lang. Yeah, a little bit of good fortune here. Secondly, if you are ever at Malone chicken sandwich from the from the clubhouse, little breaded chicken and sweet chili mayo. One of the greatest uh sandwiches I think I’ve ever had. That is a that’s an 11 out of 10 for me today. Sorry, Brandy and Johnny. Yeah, that is that is class. So, we do have a big big gap down there. It’s got to be like a flighted sixiron punch draw. See how good my club face control is right now. This could be a duck. I’m confident getting it near front left corner. Great shot. Keep going. You can sort of tell them, as Andy said, by the undulations to them, but it looks looks sensational. Nice. Wow. Stroke. Go. Yeah. It’s shot. So controlled. That’s the old stately home there in the background, isn’t it? Yeah. Serious clubhouse, isn’t it? Yeah. And there’s an extension built on the left hand side. Did in 2003. And it has been the best addition. View of the lake. Yeah. Beautiful spot for the members. We can go two ways with this. We can go along the floor or we can try and pitch it up around here and let it skirt up. It’s sat very nice. So, I’m thinking 54 and beautiful shot. Nicely done. Golfer in here. Some nice chips today. Bar one. We hit some very good stuff. Let’s tidy that up with the blade. And we’re we’re cooking. Oh, terrible. Terrible. Just sort of caught the ridge and went away, didn’t it? Do you know what? I’ve got so many thoughts over short puts at the minute. Such a shame after a great chip. Annoying thing as well. Glistening glistening off the lake and a cold Guinness just overlooking me and Andy. Top him into the water. What What could go better? What a great hole that is. It’s good, isn’t it? There’s another tea tucked back around the corner. So, they have blues here that aren’t out at the moment, but it’s sort of round there and it plays about 190 and you come sort of across the green a little bit more, which would be cool. What you hitting here? A 52 knocked on wedge as soon as the last one I think. Yeah, shot. I was going to say you you’re um you’re expected to get a hole in one on here. We actually saw him on the range when we turned up and he ran back into the pro shop. Good move. Well, good putt. Had to actually concentrate on that then. Well done, sir. A good four. I think I’m going to hit six just cuz if I get five and it flies like it’s going to go bouncing through, but it looks like as long as I get over this trap that’s at like 170, it sort of feeds its way in from there. Yeah, mine went but it came out really flat there. I feel like yours is going to get up in the air a bit more and get caught out of that lie. I’d probably be hitting 9. I know. That’s what I was thinking. You got loads of room behind. It’s 200 to the back. Yeah. Yeah, I thought it’d fly like that. Should be good though. Straight kick. Right at it. Oh, go on. See the club. We’ve also had an update from cameraman Joe on the uh the scores. There was a twoot swing then. So we are now tied going down the last big big moment. Wouldn’t it be great if it was a par five and you had to go over it? That’d be cool. I bet like some members don’t get over the water from here. Yeah. So be a What would you do then? Just a gentleman here. I think he’s 103 now. Plays twice a week and he just plays over onto the 12th and and on up. Really? What a man. Yeah. 103 playing golf still. Yeah.
