Roscommon golfer Sinead Benedetti has finished as a runner up at the Irish Women’s Senior Close Championships.

Benedetti was defeated on the 19th hole by number one seed Deirdre Smith. The Roscommon golfer led by two after three holes but was pegged back after nine.

It was an enthralling final and when Smith got up and down from a greenside bunker on 18 to force a playoff, she had the momentum behind her and won with a par on the first extra hole.

Benedetti managed to defeat 2023 champion Tracy Eakin (Dooks) 3&2 in the semi final today.

The Roscommon golfer won her quarter final on the 20th hole against Laura Webb.
