A new golf simulator business is up and running in the Cape Region.
Dave Marshall, southern Delaware’s long-successful tennis and pickleball guru, recently opened a new golf option at his company’s compound in the Plantations community near Lewes.
The hardware setup for the new system is a ProTee VX Indoor Golf Simulator, which a Virginia company installed in a high-ceiling room at Marshall’s building. The operating software comes from GS Pro and includes hundreds of course-playing options in addition to a driving range.
Golf instructor Kathy Lewis, a retired Anne Arundel County physical education teacher, is giving scheduled lessons at the new location.
“It’s amazing technology, it really is,” she said. “The driving range would be good for anybody that just wants to come in and practice their swing. They can do it by themselves. You could play Pebble Beach or Bethpage Black. Heritage Shores from Bridgeville is also on here. People like that option. They think that’s neat.”
Lewis said a ladies group league is already in place on Wednesday evenings. They call themselves Nine and Wine. “They bring their wine and their snacks. They start out good but by No. 9, it’s rough,” she laughed. Lewis credited the lifestyles director for Seascape, an area property management company, with notifying its communities and attracting a lot of traffic to the new business.
At $50 per hour for up to four players, the rates are designed to attract group play. Lewis said, “$12.50 a person, you can’t beat that.” Rates are also discounted for current Dave Marshall members.

Super-Senior Championships
Oscar Mestre of Berwyn, Pa., won the 10th Delaware Super-Senior Championship at The Rookery Aug. 12, in a record-setting performance. His 64-71-135 total was four strokes ahead of David West of the Philadelphia Publinks Golf Association.
Sueann Bennett of Cripple Creek Country Club in Ocean View won the women’s crown by 14 strokes over second-place finisher Carolyn Beers of Glen Oak Country Club of Clarks Summit, Pa. Lisa Hutchins, an assistant coach for the Cape golf team, finished in third.
The two-round, two-day competition included golfers from Golf Association of Philadelphia member clubs who were 65 or older Aug. 11. The men’s tees were set for a total of 5,700 to 5,800 yards, while the women’s tees were set for 5,300 to 5,400 yards.
Several Cape Region seniors competed in the men’s division. Those who finished in the top 40 included Jim Grigsby of Bear Trap Dunes; Paul Dillon of Cripple Creek CC; Michael Polise, Roy Kiskaden and William Donovan of Peninsula; Dean Pettyjohn and Dana Cooper of Mulligan’s Pointe; Doug Johnston and Clark Bond of Plantation Lakes; Steven Kaminsky and Mark Blazejak of The Rookery; and John Cech of Rehoboth Beach Country Club.
Demo days
Plantation Lakes Golf & Country Club in Millsboro is holding a Cobra Golf fitting day at the driving range from 2 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 28.
Titleist representatives will be there from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, Aug. 30.
Appointments for the fittings can be made by going to the golf events page at plantationlakesclub.com. Walk-ups are also an option for those less inclined to plan their days.
Update and a correction
Kings Creek Country Club hosted the 74th Delaware Junior Boys’ Championship July 30-31. However, the weather required a rescheduled playoff date between Charlie Barrickman of Radley Run CC and Christopher Parrish of Running Deer Golf Club, who had tied for first.
Parrish won the playoff on the first hole they played at DuPont CC’s Nemours Course in Wilmington Aug. 9. He made a 10-footer for par on the 10th hole.
In addition, the Aug. 8 column about the boys’ championship noted Tyler Outten of Sussex Academy and his finish in the tournament.

Local club competition results
The Mulligan’s Pointe Ladies played a Crier’s game Aug. 12 in two flights.
Karen Feuchtenberger won the first flight, with Brenda Lewis in second and Tammy Bresnahan in third.
Susan Shockley won the second flight, followed by Donna Dolce in second and Penni Hope in third.
The Kings Creek CC Ladies 9-Holers played a Step Aside Scramble Aug. 7, in two flights.
Louise Montgomery, Michelle McNichol, Tish Brey and Barbara Morton won the first flight, with Beth Andrews, Carol Silberstein, Chris Piasecki and Jennifer Walker taking second.
Sally Chamberlain, Kara Bourdreau, Kathleen Irwin and Kaye Allison won the second flight. Sherry Schaffer, Deborah Chase, Joanne Yurik and Iris Curtis finished second.
The Kings Creek CC Ladies 18-Holers played a 3, 2, 1 game Aug. 7.
Anita Pettitt, Sally McGovern, Maggie Whall and Gail Letts took first place. Gale DiBona, Jean Chlastawa, Kim Parks and Jeannine Doane finished second.
