Are you ready to dive into the thrilling world of golf playoffs? With the FedEx Cup playoffs underway, we’re down to just 50 contenders vying for the ultimate prize. But here’s where it gets really interesting. Only 30 players will make it to the poor championship at East Lake. So, who might miss out on this grand finale? Let’s take a closer look at the top players hanging on by a thread. First up is Xander Schoffley. Currently ranked 43rd in the FedEx Cup standings. Despite being one of the best performers at East Lake in recent years, Schoffley needs a strong showing, specifically a solo 21st place or better to secure his spot. This year has been tough for the world number three, marked by the lingering effects of a RID injury that derailed his early season momentum. With only three top 10 finishes and nine top 25 placements, Schoffley finds himself struggling. His woes extend to both driving and putting, areas where he previously excelled. Yet, his past performances at East Lake suggest he could still be a formidable opponent. Next, we have Victor Havland, who sits at 28th in the FedEx Cup. Havlin’s inconsistent play this season has him on the bubble even though he’s managed to win the Valbar Championship and finished third at the US Open. His iron play is topnotch, ranking second in strokes gained approach, but his driver and putting have let him down. Havlin’s talent is undeniable, and his ability to produce big results when he’s at his best keeps him in contention for East Lake. Ricky Fowler, ranked 48th, is another player desperately trying to reach East Lake. Fowler narrowly made it into the top 50 after a tie for sixth at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. To advance, he’ll need a strong finish, specifically solo 13th or better. Reaching East Lake would not only extend his season, but also earn him an extra year of PGA Tour membership. A significant benefit for the 36-year-old Fowler. Jason Day at 44th faces a similar challenge. Since 2018, he’s only made it to East Lake once, despite emerging as a consistent player on tour. Recent poor form, including missing cuts at the John Deere Classic and the Open, puts his season in jeopardy. He needs a strong finish, specifically a two-way tie for 20th or better to secure his spot at East Lake. Lastly, we have Matt Fitzpatrick. Currently 40th in the FedEx Cup standings. Fitzpatrick has been on a hot streak with four consecutive top eight finishes, including two T4s at the Genesis Scottish Open and the Open Championship. His partnership with coach Mark Blackburn seems to be paying off, helping him regain confidence. To make it to East Lake, Fitzpatrick needs at least a two-way tie for 21st place. These players represent the heart of the FedEx Cup playoffs, each with their own story and potential. Will they overcome their challenges and make it to East Lake, or will they fall short? The answers will unfold at the BMW Championship this week. What do you think? Who will make it and who will miss out?
