In this video, my buddy Cameron from @Saltstrongand I spent 24 hours fishing in Stuart, Florida to see what species we could catch. The first evening we were on our own using Salt Strong’s Smart Fishing Spots app to find places to fish, but the second day we went out from sunrise to sunset with our buddy @FishAholicTV. We caught a wide variety of species including snook, kingfish, and mutton snapper.

stewart Florida known as a sailfish capital of the world this small town has a wide variety of other fishing opportunities from snook tarpon and jacks inshore to snapper kingfish and tuna offshore my buddy Cameron and I decided to spend 24 hours here both fishing on our own and with our buddy Rich from Fishaholic to explore these new waters as much as possible so join us as we spend 24 hours in one of Florida’s best fishing towns come [Music] on this journey starts with loading up the truck with all my gear and driving over to pick up Cameron and say hi to Fred you ready for this oh yeah what are you going to catch jeez who knows men 30 lb jack 40in snook uh and a good time there you go before heading to Stewart we made a pit stop to pick up some goodies where are we we’re at Salt Strong HQ right now we’re about to go grab Brent his gear for the trip thank you sir we got to see this tall urinal see the [Music] reaction urinal going to get Brent’s reaction to the salt strong why is this urinal 5 ft in the air i got a wide variety of different baits and hooks for this trip along with a brand new rod that I was excited to try out [Music] good old days in baby home quarters for the next 24 hours we’re only going to be here to let you sleep claim your bed so when we stopped out at the Salt Trunk store in Winter Haven on the way over I picked up one of their new rods this is the the slam stick so you guys have seen the the slot machine rod that I’ve used in the past but this is their new kind of model that they’re coming out with it’s a little bit beefier a little bit heavier what I’m going to do is switch out my Quantum setup with a 4K and put the 4K Quantum Strive on here and that’s what I’m going to be trying to catch the vast majority of the fish on this trip is using this new rod to test it out i’m also curious to kind of feel the difference between this and the the slot machine as well since that’s a medium action I got the 2500 the 4K and then an 8K so I thought a 4K on a on a medium would be pretty good and there we go that’s going to be the setup for this trip i’m going to try and get the majority of the fish on it’s almost 7:00 we got a little bit of time here in the evening before the sun sets we want to do a little bit of fishing but we don’t know this area at all going on Salt Strongs this is their smart fishing spots app that they offer to their their members and we got the area right here that we’re in the Stewart area the St lucy River and one thing that I like to do when I first get to an area they got these different layers on here that you can look at so if you have a boat and you’re looking for somewhere to launch a boat they have a whole boat ramp layer so if I take that off it marks every little boat ramp that’s in the area so that’s really nice but we don’t have a boat right now they have public land and private land so I’m going to turn on the public land see if we can find somewhere that we could drive to and it pops up with these little kind of coordinates right here of areas we’re looking a little bit earlier and we found this area right down here it says park and if you click on it tells you public land tells you the name of the park and everything so that was looking pretty good let’s go in and see what the water’s looking like so some of these other layers that you can turn on the one that we kind of really caught our attention was this 1 ft contour line so as soon as you turn it on it tells you every little drop off of a foot if you guys look when I zoom in it dropped off pretty good right here at this park so that caught our eye we’re like all right there’s got to be some fish sitting right here in the current on that kind of deeper break right there that also helps us realize what we need to tie up so we put on a little bit heavier jig heads there’s probably going to be some snook over there so I think we’re going to hop in the truck here and try to do some fishing here in the last like hour of the day if you’re interested in checking out Saltrong Smart Fishing Spots app and software I’ll have a link to it in this video’s description all right so uh remember when I said we had an hour yeah we’re uh getting here right at sunset so let’s see what we can do this park closed at 9:00 it’s about 7:30 right now let’s do it so it looks like there’s a dock or like a boardwalk kind of thing over there got some good current right here got a little boardwalk okay oh yeah water’s clear oh we’re ripping this spot looked very promising with the drop off strong incoming tide and structure but with the sun dropping below the horizon we knew we were slowly running out of time to make something happen before the park closed he just pulled up a good snook over there he’s like a full moon too there we go nice little snook too dark for the DJI or the other camera but we are out here it’s kind of a full moon he’s throwing gold digger he’s going for the violence hey that yeah it’s decent for sure we have been snagging structure this entire time finally that’d be slop oh it’s a fat snook oh yeah that’s like a That’s like a different species that’s not a common snook dang i don’t know if I’ve ever caught one of those before look at that thing right there i know they got the tarpon snook the fat snook yeah he hit it right there there’s a lot of structure down there we’re feeling on every cast but I saw hooking that time he actually fought back a little bit dude that’s cool i don’t know if I’ve ever caught that species before that’s awesome we come out here on our own and get one i don’t want to say quickly we’ve been here for at least an hour but hey we got one oh dude he wasn’t going anywhere i switched to a a darker color i’ve been throwing kind of like natural patterns and then as soon as I switch a darker color that didn’t take too long actually that’s pretty cool right there get a little dive bump on them see you dude hey we caught a fish we left shortly after releasing that snook so we could rest up for a full day of fishing tomorrow that was sick what time is the camera too early for you to be pointing that camera at me i think we got like 8 minutes to load up the truck and then hit the road [Music] yep can I just put that bolt all right we just made it to the ramp rich told us 6:30 to be here at 6:41 we beat him here take that Rich i think our game plan for today is to try and find some like inshore spots in the morning i guess he was talking about stopping on the water to get lunch somewhere and apparently it’s going to just kind of flatten out so he’s talking about then heading out and possibly trying to get some mutton snapper so we got some game plans is that him no no we’re keeping an eye out but now we’re just kind of waiting on Rich here at the ramp oh yeah it is and then we’re going to get going yep he’s here we were greeted with a very busy ramp but with a full moon and beautiful weather we had high hopes for catching some good fish here at the first spot of the day we got Captain Rich right behind us taking us out we’re in the Seward area like we were talking about we’re here at the first W of the day we’re staying inshore to start and we’re at this really nice quick drop off kind of right by shore we’re going to start dropping down some jigs trying to bounce it off the bottom rich before I even was able to make a cast just pulled up his hook so it’s a good sign and I’m gonna stop talking and start fishing all right so I got a nice half ounce jig head right here i got the wedding crasher mulligan my custom color link in the description i’m going to show you that it works so yeah I’ll show you guys on the app but right here Rich is talking about how it drops down to about 20 ft deep this this close to shore look at that sunrise beautiful sunrise with the boys there you go get him on got him he feels tiny little guy got to start somewhere yeah come on over here dude hopefully by the end of the day we first little fatty of the day hope so too see you dude yeah all the current and everything’s coming right toward us so we’re casting up current and it’s kind of working the baits back with the current apparently there’s a lot of structure right here at this drop off and these snook and everything are just kind of sitting right down in there so you’re just trying to work it right above the structure yeah there we go oh that’s better also did loosen the drag what we’re working with here oh he’s not that big at all my drag was loose mine will make yours look bigger oh yeah another fat snook right there it’s cool that you come over here to Stewart like you rarely ever see a fat snook or any of the other species of snook over in the Tampa Bay area but then you come over here and that’s all we’ve caught so far snookwise are these fat snook that is cool see dude are you going to catch anything today he’s on again what a beast another pretty one i love catching these fats snook nice there you go dude there’s Bunky you’re crushing it right now nice i like the action we’re not leaving this spot till Cameron gets one that’s for sure he might have had a bite maybe he might have had a bite i just got snagged too there’s a fish cameron’s on oh yeah oh yeah that’s a good fat snook right there first fat snook there you ever there you go i’ve never fish a lot of action yeah that’s a good one it’s a decent one Cameron yeah there you go Cameron look he’s got like a little bite mark on his tail double up baby wedding crack after color there you go mine’s got a good one too i think you got me beat a little bit oh that’s a good one i think you got loopy i think that one’s bigger than mine there you go look at us heck yeah there we go right there look at that beautiful rich putting us on the spot oh yeah oh that was right you guys are figuring it out yeah there you go thanks man mhm work sweet [Music] cameron’s on you’re like I need to put the camera away there you go i think it’s a common the first common is it yeah too skinny to be no it’s a fat it’s a really skinny fat it’s skinny fat after that one we’re going to go closer to that point back there this is a nice skinny fat snook right there rich on a good one right now oh that that’s a tank bat snook that’s why we’re here nice dude what an awesome fish 26 and like an eighth inch batnook what an epic fight on some light tackle so cool oh so I switch over to the Hos roundeye weedless hook right here see if I can avoid getting some snags yep that’s better come on oh yeah good fatty good fatty right there all right now that’s my one we’re looking for one more get on over here dude woo pretty cool dude yeah they are stacked right here at this little drop off that we found got them on the wedding crasher right there baby rigged weedless too nice to see that do a little dive bomb on them see you dude all right so we just hit this shoreline for about an hour probably caught about 20 snook off it missed a couple more but the game plan now with the current kind of dying down a little bit is we’re going to see if we can go get some bait uh I think it’s pilchards or thread fins that we’re looking for really uh piltchards and mullet mullet okay thread fin out on the ocean there you go see if we can get some bait but he was also talking about maybe throwing some top waters for some snook around the same area so we’re going to move spots move tactics see what we can do come on camera we got to get your hair flowing in the wind [Music] all right guys check it out got a beautiful like 10 to 12 inch mullet here brett and I are working hard because these baits aren’t making it easy but we’ve probably got about a couple dozen now and these are going to be primo baits later on for Big Snook or Big [Music] Jackal almost high tide and so that clear ocean water is pushed up along these rocks here and it drops off to about 5 8 ft in different areas and I don’t really reel that much i just give little half turns as I’m kind of just following that little presentation down along the edge of the rocks so one thing I’m trying to do I specifically put on the weedless roundeye jig head right here i’m just kind of being a little reckless but getting it right up in these pockets right in the rocks right here because a lot of times the snook are going to be as deep in those rocks kind of ambushing prey so if you can kind of get your bait in there and using a weedless presentation like that is the best way to try and limit the amount of snags you’re going to get but if you can kind of target you can see all the rocks that are right here if you see a little deeper area in between two rocks like I see right here just kind of drop it right in there and let it sink down a lot of times that’s where the fish are going to be first common of the day first comment of the day and I’m looking at the current blowing by the rocks now it looks like Go ahead it just started going out the tide so I got this bite right at the start of the outgoing all right they’re pretty yeah when they’re down on the ocean like that yeah and they’re really lightly colored cuz that sand and clear water beautiful we decided to run offshore and the first goal was to catch bonita for bait we used the smart fishing spots app with the artificial reef filter to find a spot where we can make that happen doubled up we think they’re bonita i was doing a little uh crankbait back there rich out a little feather we’re just trying to get bait right now for potentially some mutton snapper oh they’re beautiful bullet bonita yeah they are we continued to troll for a little bit longer with no luck so I switched over to a slam shady 2.0 on a jig head when I hooked into something I didn’t expect you could have doubled up on it on a nice king right here guys got a nice little kingfish when we’re trying to ate the paddle tail huh yeah oh there we go all right he’s going on smoker back home baby he choked oh he cut it he cut it right there cut it right there wow the fact I got him in on a paddle tail 40 lb just a little slam shady choked it that’s like the perfect size you didn’t get cut off dude that’s crazy yeah that’s like the perfect size for throwing on the smoker dropping down a slam shady on a jig head trying to get some bonita got a kingfish with 40 lb leader on no wire somehow got it to the boat without it cutting me off i I don’t think I’ve ever caught a kingfish on on just straight up mono like that so that was pretty cool going to bring him back maybe do a little fish dip with him but I think we’re going to move spots see what else we can do but that was a fun little fight right there with bait secured we ran further out with hopes of finding mutton snapper simple mutton rig that we’re using now here you can see I have a four circle hook and generally you want to start with probably like 30 or 40 foot of 30 lb fluorocarbon leader and as you’re letting your leader out you want to attach it to a little barrel swivel here i like to put a bead and then an egg sinker on another another top shot leader here that is FG knotted to my mainline 30 lb braid and I like to do that because sometimes if you tie the braid directly to the swivel when this is dropping down your main your main leader can wrap on that braid and that that’s how you you can find yourself in a nightmare especially all you want to do is catch fish you don’t want to be dealing with a a ton of knots so I find that if you have at least like 15 ft of that top shot leader and then go to the swivel you uh decrease your chance to get tangled as much on the way down rich has definitely hooked some very muttony looking things all right I’m on the bottom now and with the fish finder rig with this current the weight’s going to be closer to the boat and the bait’s going to be kind of flowing behind it and because we have about 20 30 ft a liter it’s going to be looking pretty natural back there apparently these muttons have great eyesight and they’re really picky that’s why I’m also using 20 lb leader which is crazy oh that guy on the white boat’s hooked up again this guy oh oh they got a sail they got a sail oh that a bite doesn’t feel like he’s on there but definitely got the taps yeah sometimes they’ll hit you they’ll swim at you too so like you won’t Sometimes they swim away sometimes they swim at you and they’ll just be sitting there with it in their mouth come on get him Brent get him Brent just cranking don’t even Don’t even think twice don’t even think twice just crank they came through someone up mutton woo i got mine nice dude that’s a keeper he swallowed it i think it was on the whole time like you were talking about oh you got it a mutton i don’t know if this is still him get over here oh yeah mine’s touching 20 there we go guys keeper mutton right there you know I just can’t get mutton off the mine i think the last video I posted was me getting those mutton so this is cool to come out here and get another one he’s going right in the box he was a hair over 20 in they need to be 18 in to keep so that’s perfect right there so something that happened with this fish right here is I felt the initial bite of when he ate but then I felt nothing afterwards and apparently Rich was talking about how sometimes he’ll eat it and kind of swim back toward your weight kind of up your line and the circle hook was all the way down his throat which means he had it for a while so that’s exactly what happened with this fish so I just left it down there for a little bit longer felt a couple more taps of him on there and I just reel down and didn’t stop reeling until he to the boat so that’s awesome right there that’s dinner yep get him get up here i got the blue net there’s an extra keeper there we go there he is nice another mutton looks about the same size right there dude no probably a little smaller this one might just barely be 18 please be 18 a hair over 19 in yep that’s a keeper perfect eater size really guys right now we’re doing one of Brent’s favorite thing and that is fishing with cut bait i am fired up right now cut bait being Cameron’s on a good one when that sinker comes up back up so I can grab the leader yep start backing up you got my line out too but you’re good if it tangles it tangles this might be like a 25 29 incher dude it’s a nice fish come on Cameron there’s the leader there’s the leader keep going keep going let’s see that weight i see the sinker i see the fish keep going fish all right i got the net just stop reeling wow this You’re using a very light leader it’s so thin woo biggest mutton of the day oh of course oh yeah [Applause] way to go Cameron heck yeah never a doubt never a doubt that’s the trophy we’re after Cameron three in the box heck yeah oh yeah cameron that’s a good one all right guys first mutin so cool awesome fish should be the PB for a little bit or 5 minutes we’ll see can you can you do a take where you’re like picking him up to the camera and Oh I’m on oh dude oh god rodney came in clutch is that a big in he might be in the bottom already a Yeah rich you on yeah I’m on big i got the net is this net big enough should I grab big net no that net will be fine okay these fish don’t make it easy for you especially since you know you’re competing for them i see him down there you got the weight i’ll net him grab that nice there you go oh it’s a stud he’s in the boat there we go dude let’s freaking go number four beautiful mutton right there man these fish know how to throw down right Cameron yeah they’ll give you a workout especially since you know that you got to get them up before the sharks or the Goliath grouper grab them and this one actually had me in the bottom for a sec and then I hopped over to the port side of the boat and it uh came off the bottom and cranked them up cameron and Rich each got one that was 23 24 in now I want one around that size all right my DJI was dying but Rich just got number five we made the call that we’re just gonna use these last couple chunks here might as well since we’re out here and then once we do that we’re going to run in get some dinner like late lunch early dinner and then head back out with the mullet and see what wants to play with those rich is filling the box [Music] today there he is [Music] nice one heck yeah dude loading up who would have thought the two bonito was going to be the perfect mount yeah two we would get one on i didn’t know i didn’t think What is that holy a shark chasing our mullet it’s a big shark what is that it’s a hammerhead it’s a hammerhead big hammerhead just ate our bullet guys oh my god what is going on he eat it he ate it yeah oh my god did he cut it yeah oh he took the bait oh he’s still chasing the mullet oh my god i was like guys what is that see that guys there’s a shark right here i just threw the bonita out and that’s why we don’t throw the bonas over the boat because there’s a lot of sharks around here to begin with you start throwing all that chum in the water it’s just going to bring around more and more look he’s chasing the bullet he was chasing the mullet can you guys reel up the slack look at He’s on it he’s on it you get the underwater camera yeah I’m on it stick it right here in the water on the left [Music] side he wants it [Music] evil that was our little offshore mission ended up getting six keeper muttons i got one Cameron got one rich came in clutch with a four right there so that was sick and we still got all the mullet in the back we’re gonna see if we can get some big jacks maybe snook and stuff on the mullet later on so I’m hungry i’m tired a little bit so let’s go get some food we made the run back in to stop at a restaurant on the water for a quick dinner before targeting Big Jacks at sunset where are we at Rich we’re here at uh Shrimpers and uh it’s packed out there’s a lot of people here we’re kind of late to the party but we’re going to grab some food ready [Music] last little send of this day we’re going to use these mullet that we worked hard to get see if we can get a big old jack from the mouth up top just like that pretty much trolling it you can come on this side Brand cameron on you yep oh that’s a big jack that’s a big jack oh he’s on it another big swirl on it oh oh look at that pop look at that pop did he get Oh now he did now he’s got it hold let him let him eat it let him eat it i’ll let you know when let him go let him go hit it crank crank like just crank crank crank crank crank penetrate that hook there you go dude that’s a big one not going to lie you’re kind of working this thing right now the fish ain’t done yet he’s just getting started rich is like you shouldn’t have said that there he goes we found him we found him there you go good fish not a bad one that’s a mullet muncher right there there you go oh yeah good fish good fish right there little mullet muncher good job dude that is a pretty good messy fish well there we go guys as you see ended up with the six keeper mutton snapper right there best mutton snapper bite I’ve ever seen in person got that king fish just on straight mono on a paddle tail crazy crazy day we almost forgot about all the snook we caught this morning i mean God the snook last night been here for it feels like days now but really about 24 hours so we’re going to get to filt we got to bag these up and then Cameron and I actually got to hop back in the car and drive back home tonight so it’s going to be a late night for us but we’re going to get this going and get on the road but thank you guys for watching this video and I’ll see you guys next time [Music]
