WESTFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — Torque GC’s Sebastián Muñoz stole the show in the first round of LIV Golf Indianapolis.

He recorded a birdie in eight straight holes to set a LIV Golf record.

In total, he birdied 13 of his last 14 holes to hold the lead after the first day at -12.

Muñoz shot a 59, making him just the third player to shoot a sub-60 round in LIV Golf.

“Something I’ve never done,” Muñoz said. “I’ve done eight birdies in a row. I tied my personal record. But 13 out of 14, it’s insane. I’ve never sniffed that. Really proud of the way I handled the day, the start of the day, and how I just kind of sorted through.”

Plus, his record-breaking hot streak came after recording a double bogey.

“It was a lot of mental strength out there,” Muñoz said. “I felt like — I started decent. A couple pars, a birdie and then a couple bad shots in a row, ended up making double. Kind of forgave myself, honestly. I didn’t want to hold on and have a grudge all day, so I kind of forgave myself.”

Muñoz holds a three shot leading heading into Saturday. Dustin Johnson (-9) is in second. There’s a four way tied for third at -7: Cameron Smith, Patrick Reed, Thomas Pieters, and Joaquín Niemann.

This weekend is the first time LIV Golf has played a tournament in the state of Indiana. The event was swarmed with fans, with grounds passes selling out on both Friday and Saturday.

Muñoz was impressed by the turnout.

“It’s been great,” Muñoz said. “It was great to see a lot of fans out there today. It’s great for the city of Indianapolis to show up when we come. I felt like they enjoyed it. There’s a lot of birdies out there. It’s a little easier track than what we usually play, but you’ve still got to make the putts, you’ve still got to hit the shots. It was a good show for the city of Indianapolis today, and hope that I can keep playing good and having a lot cooler moments in the next couple days.”

The shotgun start for the second round is at 11:05 a.m. on Saturday.
