Setting up with a driver like this is just flat out wrong. You’re going to think I’m crazy, but this setup tip is crazy. But if you do set up with your driver like this in the middle of the face on the floor directly behind the ball, you are losing strike, you’re losing accuracy, and for most people, most importantly, you are losing distance. So, this is really important for you. But what I want to know is, let me know in the comments, how far do you hit driver at the moment before this? and then try the tip and let me know how far you hit it after the tip. Really curious to know if it helps you as much as it helps me. So, in this video, I’m going to show you why this is wrong. How making the very simple setup change I’m going to show you can give you more accuracy and more distance. There’s no complicated swing changes, nothing like that. It’s just a small tweak to your setup and it makes all the difference. So the trouble is with driver is we kind of think of it like all of our other clubs and it is to a degree. But if you look at an iron now, okay, if we set up normally behind the ball, you can see I’ll put this tape on there so you can see roughly where the center of the face is. You set up to it and you swing back and you hit down on it and it comes back down at impact. Great. Hopefully hit it straight. It might not if you’re like me. If you apply that same concept to your driver, it’s not the same, is it? First of all, look, mostly we’re hitting iron off a very short tea or off the off the ground. Generally, we’re not hitting driver off the deck. We’re hitting it off a relatively high teg unless you peg it down like me a bit sometimes. But anyway, so if we set up like that and we swing back and we hit through, we hit it out the middle straight all the time, right? No. Again, like me, I don’t do that. But look what happens. It’s not the same with irons. We’re trying to hit down. We’ve generally got an angle of attack that’s down. If you hit up on it, you’re going to thin it and bad things will happen with driver. We generally, and not everyone will do this, but generally we’re trying to hit up on the ball because it’s a long club. We’ve got a wider swing arc and we have to hit up on it. It’s on a teg. We just have to hit up on it like that. Um, you’ll see some people hit down on it with a high tee and obviously you’ll get it off the top and you’ll get sky marks and all that sort of stuff, but generally we hit up on it. Okay. So, look what happens. I’ve set up in the middle here and as I swing back, I have to hit up and the impact position is heel. Now, I’ve not manipulated that. I’m trying to keep the club as steady as possible. But look, if I keep it stationary now, I won’t swing it back. If we lift it, okay, my hand, imagine my hands are there and I’m addressing the ball. If I lift it to impact as I’m hitting up on it, look it, that’s where the impact position is. Okay, I’m lifting it up because that’s where I have to hit. The ball is suspended in the air. Okay, it’s not still down there. If I was just swinging down there, then sorry, let’s address it in the middle. If I’m swinging flat and hitting perfectly flat, then fine. If you’ve got a a level kind of angle of attack or slightly downward angle of attack, then it’s fine to set up in the middle of it. So, if you set up every time in the middle on the floor like that and you’re trying to hit up on it, you’re going to have to do some amazing manipulation with your hands in the club head to then return it not there and to get it there or slightly toes side. Okay? And you don’t want that. You want it to be consistent. So, that’s why this is so simple and so amazing and why I love it so much and why I wish everyone knew about it because the fix is so simple. Look, instead of aiming in the middle like that, just set up off the toe. Okay, just start it off the toe. I like to also start it a little bit further back because then that helps you hit up on it as well. Um, the more further back you do it, the more that will help, but you’re going to have to practice and dial that in. But start off the toe. And now you look, when I lift the club for the impact of the upward strike, where is it? It’s in the middle of the face, exactly where we want it to be. It’s as simple as that. Honestly, it blows my mind that I forget this so often and it blows my mind how many people don’t know about it. So, please give it a try. It will improve your strike no end and it will just give you more distance and it will give you that more accurate shot as well. Okay. So, just off the toe, we swing back. We swing through. Look how it meets the middle. I’m not manipulating that. I know some people might say in the comments, “Oh, you’re just kind of moving it around.” No, I’m not. I’m keeping that as steady as I can. I’m hitting up on it and it’s coming up there. If you don’t believe me, I’ll just do it again. Look, I’m not moving backwards at all. I’m just raising it. That’s where your strike position will be naturally. That has to be there. Not there off the heel. It’s now in the middle. Okay. So, I really hope that helps you improve your driver strike, your accuracy, and gives you that more distance. If it has helped you, I’d really appreciate you hitting the subscribe button.
