San Francisco, CA-Cleveland State men’s golf alumnus Andrew Bailey finished up a successful week at the 125th US Amateur. Bailey finished tied for 16th in the stroke play portion of the event and advanced to the Round of 32 in match play.

The US Amateur, first contested in 1895, is one of the world’s most prestigious amateur golf tournaments. The tournament received over 5,000 qualifying entries that were eventually trimmed down to 312 competitors who earned the right to tee it up this week at The Olympic Club just outside of San Francisco. The field is one of the strongest in amateur golf, with 47 of the top 50 players in the World Amateur Golf Ranking competing.

Bailey carded rounds of 72-68 to finish the 36 holes of stroke play at even par 140. His T-16 finish advanced him into the match play rounds where the top 64 finishers compete in a bracket to determine the US Amateur champion. Bailey won his first match with a par on the 18th hole to secure a 1-up victory over Andrew Tan of Austin, Texas. He fell in his second match of the week to Daniel Svard of Sweden.

Bailey is a 2014 graduate of Cleveland State and was inducted into the Cleveland State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022. He still holds the records for career scoring average (73.5) and single season scoring average (72.3). He was a three-time Horizon League Player of the Year and earned the league’s Newcomer of the Year award in his freshman season in 2011. Bailey has gone on to have a successful amateur career following his time in the green and white. He claimed back-to-back Ohio Amateur titles in 2023 and 2024, including claiming the 2023 title at Canterbury Golf Club, his current home course.
