CHAUTAUQUA Two strong, young golfers took on the challenge of a 100-hole golf marathon at Chautauqua Golf Club on Wednesday to raise funds for the New York State Golf Association Foundation’s Scholarship Program.

Evan Steffen and Gavin Rodgers each completed 100 holes. Starting at 7:15 a.m., they averaged under 1 hour, 30 minutes per 18 holes.

The NYSGA Foundation is the 501(c)(3) arm of the NYSGA. Its scholarship program grants awards to employees of member golf clubs locally and across the state. Recipients must be in good academic standing, be in at least their second season working at a member golf club and have a financial need. Once approved, scholarships are renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study.

Steffen and Rodgers are both Maple Grove High School graduates. Steffen starts his freshman year at the University of Pitt-Bradford in a few weeks. He is a two-time Chautauqua GC junior champion and will be on the golf team while majoring in mechanical engineering. Rodgers will be a sophomore at University of Buffalo, majoring in electrical engineering.

This was the fourth annual golf marathon at CGC. The event has been a successful fund raiser for local scholarship awards thanks to the generosity of Chautauqua members. Anyone wishing to donate to the NYSGA Foundation to support the scholarship program can do so on-line at charity.pledgeit.org/2025NYSGA or by mailing a check to the NYSGA Foundation at 4933 Jamesville Road, Jamesville, New York, 13078.
