The Old Petty course at Cabot Highlands in Scotland has opened for preview play, with the Tom Doak-designed course joining the original Castle Stuart course to create a 36-hole operation at the Inverness-based club, which was bought by the Cabot company in 2022.
Preview rounds on the course began on August 1 and are available for a walking-only playing experience until September 30 for a reduced fee of £190pp, after which the course will close for the winter before being officially opened for play next Spring.
The Old Petty is nestled beside the historic Old Petty Church and boasts breathtaking views of the 400-year-old Castle Stuart from 13 of its 18 holes. The championship layout been routed to embrace the natural drama of the land, with opening and closing holes that criss-cross fairways near the clubhouse. Other key holes include the short par-3 17th, dramatic coastline vistas on the 10th, and a return to the Moray Firth on the 14th.
“We are so excited to be sharing this first glimpse of Old Petty,” said Ben Cowan-Dewar, CEO and co-founder of Cabot. “From the outset, our vision has been to honour the land and its rich history while crafting an unforgettable golf experience that adds to the reputation of Castle Stuart. Old Petty is a course that will surprise, challenge and inspire, true to the spirit of the Highlands.”
A range of products featuring the new Cabot Highlands tartan are available by at the club’s pro shop
In addition to the soft opening of the new course, Cabot Highlands has also launched its own tartan to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the historic Castle Stuart, the historic building which the Old Petty Course plays around.
The Cabot Highlands Tartan was created in collaboration with renowned Highlands designer Clare Campbell, with the design drawing inspiration from the natural tones of the Scottish Highlands and the legacy of Castle Stuart itself. Woven at the last remaining operating tartan mill in the Highlands, the fabric tells a story of artistry and local pride.
“At Cabot, branding has always been about storytelling with purpose, Jules Cowan-Dewar, chief marketing officer, Cabot. “From day one, we’ve been intentional about every detail, and the creation of the Cabot Highlands tartan is no exception. It’s more than a design – it’s a symbol of place, history and identity that connects our guests to the Highlands in a deeply authentic way.”
A limited-edition Cabot Highlands Tartan Collection is now available to buy exclusively at the Cabot Highlands golf shop. The 400th anniversary logo collection can also be bought in-store and online at shop.thecabotcollection.com.
