The Puma MagX Nitro 150 plus miles. Are we seeing an acceleration in the shoes degrading state? Let’s talk about it, analyze, and find out what’s going on. So, before we get into the video, make sure you like the video, subscribe to the channel if you’re subscribed, watch my content. Thanks so much. Love you guys a lot. Make sure you follow me on Instagram and Straa for all sorts of other updates and things like that. So, without further ado, let’s begin. Specs for the shoes somewhere where you can see them. And let’s get into our outs soles first. And as we take a brief look at the outsoles for both shoes, I uh am remembering that we briefly discussed the idea or it was discussed at least previously on earlier reviews that the MagMax was going to have a higher level of degrading in the outsole than most shoes earlier. So, that was sort of my main focus when I was thinking about putting this review together. And I’ll caveat this also. Uh, I did miss the 100 mile review, but I’m like right at 150. So, this is a a twoin one review, one might say, in terms of checkpoints in the shoes lifespan. So, getting back to our original point, is the outsole in worse shape uh compared to most daily trainers out there? I think the short answer is no. Like as you can see, we do have a lot of good detail across the shoe still in terms of the rubber outsole pieces on the Puma Grip. The foam that’s exposed is not in really that bad of a shape. It just has a little bit of discoloration from both oils on the road that I’m running on. Maybe some other debris and things like that, but as you can see, it’s it’s fine, right? like the shoe is now probably had about 5% treadmill miles and then 95% road and it looks fine, right? So, it’s maybe it’s too early compared to what you guys were saying, but overall it’s not that bad in terms of degrading on the rubber side. Now, foam on the other hand, this one has a couple of things and items of concern for me. So number one, as we’ve kind of discussed with uh my personal running form that with a shoe like this, I tend to have a little bit of supenation. Uh you can see first off that we have this massive creasing of foam near the midfoot area of the shoe on both sides of the shoe. And this goes for both shoes as you can see here. So, I don’t know again if this is a design for the shoe or this is just simply a weak point on the shoe that may need some reinforcement in the future releases or this is just again strictly because of my running form that something like this is happening. What are the consequences of this? Well, I guess two things, right? One that slight supernation uh just my running theory here is that when it rains it pours. Okay, the point being there, I got something in my eye. I’m just trying to get it out. I think I got it though. Back to the point. It rain. When it rains, it pours. So, if you have a little bit of instability on a shoe of this stack height, it’s going to amplify much more in terms of the side effects. So if I have a slight supnation and the foam is fatiguing in that supenated area of the foot, it’s going to sink a lot more than if it was more of a midstack to a track spike style shoe. Okay? And the only evidence I have to kind of support this theory is that after certain runs that I do in this shoe, I do have a little bit of soreness in like the arches of my feet. And I do have a little bit of ankle instability postrun where I’ll feel a little bit of soreness also in like the ball joint ankle area of my uh foot and a little bit in the ankle area. Right? So, that being said, you can also see that some of that wear and tear, and we discussed this in the previous videos, that these decal uh pieces on the Puma shoe are falling off, right? So, there is some kind of stretching that’s occurring that’s causing these to pop off, which again, it sucks, but it’s also expected based on what what I’m expecting to see on the shoe. And it when we kind of go back to some of the wear that’s going on, the Puma Grip is fine, but we can see that the foam that’s following the Puma Grip in this um outer area of the shoe is also beginning to slightly fall apart. Right. So again, all completely expected. Not as bad as it was sounding. Right. So, this fatiguing in the foam, I’m going to see as we get to the 200 plus mile point if this is going to cause a major performance uh debuff in the shoe as we move forward. Because right now, like the performance of the shoe is fine. I’m not really concerned with uh the speed that may or may not be lost with the shoe. I overall think the ride is still okay. It’s just I’m beginning to notice more of the I guess amplification of a little bit of supenation because again high stack shoe, no carbon plates, little stability despite the shoe being a bit wider. Like this all kind of compounds into uh future soreness and not really injuries in my case, but something to be aware of, right? And I guess this was also a comment made on a previous video for a different shoe. Uh, we caveat a lot of this with the fact that I am about 5’8, 5’9, about 140 pounds when I usually film these reviews. So, I’m in my marathon training, so I’m cutting a little bit more weight. For heavier set runners, some of these metrics may be more of a concern, right? So, if you know that you heel strike a little bit more, that fatigue may be that foam fatigue might be a lot more intense than what I’m experiencing. So, if I come at you and say, “Hey, look at this foam fatigue.” like it has a slight amplification of like uh supernation that I’m experiencing and I feel a little bit of soreness. I guess the translation there is like expect it to be potentially a little bit more amplified in your case depending on your running form. You’re the judge of that. You kind of have a good idea if you’ve been running for a while how bad it can get and especially in higher stack shoes like this. Um, yes, they are more comfortable for you, but if the shoe is beginning to fatigue and wear out, it’s going to wear out a lot quicker and the side effects of that may become uh more severe in your case. So, you’re kind of the judge of that, right? So, if I’m at 100 plus miles and I’m not really too concerned about it, maybe you should be a little bit more concerned than I am just because of, you know, the metrics we’re dealing with, right? So, all that being said, um, I’m not too concerned. I do see this fatiguing on both ends. And I’m just genuinely concerned why this is like the shoe’s fault point. I guess that was the word I was looking for earlier. You know, like when you’re driving on a bridge and like there’s one point that like cracks usually on a bridge. That’s like the fault point, right? This is like currently the MagMax’s fault point in or fault point in my uh shoe. So, I’m just curious to see why that would be the case. Probably because it’s like the highest area of strike and it’s just the most impact, right? Um, the only other con that is really going on with the shoe. Those are all good things, by the way. Like the performance is fine. It’s stable for the most part. There is some instability, but again, that’s expected with the high stack. Another con that I’m experiencing with the shoe is that if I’m running on these summer days, doesn’t breathe really well. There’s a lot of water absorption that happens in the outer material. So, it’s not extremely breathable. And as a result of that, if you’re attempting two a days in this shoe, uh you’re going to have like a very wet shoe for your second run, unless you have a like a nice cool dry place to store it or if you can just like put it outside and let it kind of breathe. And uh that’s given that I live in the Midwest and it’s a lot more humid here. I’m sure if you live in like the mountains or somewhere where it’s a lot drier, I’m sure you can overcome this issue much quicker than I can. But yeah, I can’t really two a day in this shoe at this time. So, that’s just something that’s kind of annoying when I want to uh do a two a day with it. But overall, at 100 plus, 150 plus miles, there are things I’m still monitoring with this shoe. Things that don’t look great, like the foam fatiguing and the decals falling apart and a little bit of the soreness I experience after the shoe. But the performance is fine for its everyday use, for its recovery use. I’m not really mad about any sort of uh faults on the foam. I’m not mad about any sort of uh wear and tear on the Puma Grip uh outsole rubber material. So, I think right now the shoe is just about where I expect it to be. It’s not as bad as I guess it’s been made out to be. Um but that being said, the the shoe is still in my lineup. It’s still in my everyday uh training uh you know, regiment. It’s a shoe that I trade off with the Vomero 18, the Nova Blast 5. So, it’s in there uh in that shuffle to be used whenever I get the chance to. So, if you agree or disagree with assessment, let me know in the comments below. But for the most part, that’s all I’ve got really for this shoe. Um, and I think we’ll leave it at that. So, thanks again for watching. I’ll see you guys in the next one.
