PGA Tour player Karl Vilips discusses the TaylorMade R7 Quad Mini Driver and why it’s in the bag
Originally, the decision to put the R seven in was just because of the course setup, which was at uh RBC Heritage in Hilton Head. Not a long course, pretty tight, a lot of dog legs, and the the big driver one, I wasn’t hitting it great. The swing wasn’t feeling all there with the driver, and the total distance on that driver would have gotten me through a lot of those dog legs. So, the R seven kept me short of those. Um, it was a lot straighter with my attack angle being where it was. We designed it to be a little bit uh stronger off the tea than off the ground because I wasn’t going to be hitting off the ground. Um so I was getting about 293 off the tea with it, which is plenty out there. And I hit it so well that week I decided to just keep it in the bag for the next I don’t know what it’s been four or five weeks since. Um and I really use it just if I’m not feeling it with the driver that day, I have that to rely on to put me in a fairway. Um, similarly, if there’s a hole that I need to hit a fairway on, I’ll put put that in play off the tea. Um, haven’t hit it too much off the ground. I think one time at the PGA Championship and hit it great. Um, so it’s very versatile for what it is. Um, and I love it. You know, it doesn’t spin out of the sky. Doesn’t, you know, dive out of the sky either. It’s got the perfect spin for me. Um, and yeah, goes plenty far enough and it’s very straight.
