Bryson DeChambeau claimed drug testing on LIV Golf is far more rigorous compared to the PGA Tour.
DeChambeau made a surprise appearance on the Pat McAfee show on Tuesday where he waxed lyrical on a number of topics.
Chief of which was his recent appointment as the chairman of the president’s council on sports, fitness and nutrition.
DeChambeau also offered his thoughts on the future of men’s golf, new content ideas and even opened up on his friendship with his loyal caddie and trusted right-hand man Greg Bodine.
The two-time major champion also made an off-the-cuff remark when asked about the PIF-backed breakaway’s anti-doping policies.
“It’s actually a lot more rigorous than the other side,” DeChambeau said.
He declined to get into specifics, but the 31-year-old’s comment sparked a debate on X and drew plenty of scepticism.
“I love Bryson, but this doesn’t sound truthful,” one user said.
“If you say so,” another chimed in.
Another added: “So that’s why you stopped bulking?!”
That comment was a reference to DeChambeau’s incredible weight gain for the 2019-2020 PGA Tour season.
DeChambeau spent that offseason bulking up, consuming more than 6,000 calories a day in a bid to become the biggest-hitter on Tour.
His daily diet consisted of six meals a day, plus several protein shakes.
The golfer gained roughly 40 pounds in less than a year and claimed his first major championship title, the US Open at Winged Foot, by overpowering the course.
Injuries to his wrist and hip, plus gut inflammation, led to DeChambeau deciding to slim back down.
Bryson DeChambeau denies taking PEDs
The incredible transformation to DeChambeau’s physique led to several rumours the golfer was taking performance-enhancing drugs.
To dispel the rumours, DeChambeau made a six-minute YouTube video of himself submitting bloodwork to a Quest Diagnostics lab and revealing the results.
“I wanted you guys to see this and showcase this because no one else is going to do this,” DeChambeau said.
“This is medical information that I’m willing to disclose, and I want you guys to know I did this in a way that was hopefully natural, and just hard work.”
Graeme McDowell’s swipe at PGA Tour, DP World Tour
DeChambeau isn’t alone in thinking that LIV Golf’s anti-doping measures are taken more seriously.
In August 2024, Graeme McDowell was suspended for one tournament and fined $125,000 after he breached anti-doping procedures by using a Vicks nasal spray to assist with cold symptoms.
The former US Open champion said he used the spray without realising it was on the banned list.
After the oversight, McDowell took what was interpreted as a dig at the PGA and DP World Tours by saying: “LIV’s anti-doping policy is designed to be thorough and transparent.
“Unlike some other tours LIV enforces these rules rigorously, which made this situation particularly challenging for me.
“However, I accept the rules and penalties – they are essential for maintaining the integrity of the sport.”
The PGA Tour has always drawn criticism for perceived secrecy and inaction over anti-doping matters.
