Scottie Scheffler’s dominance in men’s golf has sparked comparisons to Tiger Woods more than once. But after his commanding win at the Open Championship last month, those comparisons hit a new level.
With his latest win at Royal Portrush, the world No. 1 grabbed his fourth major title in just 1,197 days. That exact number mirrors the time Woods took to win his first four majors between 1997 and 2000. It’s a stat that stunned fans and analysts.
While Scheffler himself has downplayed the parallels, calling them “a bit silly” and insisting Tiger “stands alone in the game of golf,” others aren’t holding back.
The latest praise came from LIV Golf’s Bryson DeChambeau.

The Crushers GC captain appeared on the “Pat McAfee Show” this week and offered his candid take on what makes Scheffler so special.
“He has got the best spin and distance control I’ve ever seen,” DeChambeau told McAfee during the interview released on Tuesday. “Like he controls the golf ball from a spin perspective so much better than everybody else. His distance control is the best… probably since Tiger (Woods), he’s the best that we’ve seen.”
The LIV Golf pro, known for his analytical approach and power game, didn’t mince words. He explained how Scheffler’s ability to land shots precisely, even in tough wind conditions, is unmatched.
“If you’re 175 yards out and it’s 10 miles into the wind, he knows how to control the flight and spin to get that ball to land right next to the hole every time,” he added as seen in the podcast posted on YouTube.
The two champions’ rivalry on the greens has played out across multiple majors, including this year’s PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, where Scheffler surged ahead with a late eagle and DeChambeau faltered on the 17th with a costly double bogey.
Despite the setback, Bryson was seen congratulating Scheffler post-round, saying, “I’m proud of you, man. Good job”. But their history goes back further.
“I played with him in college a bunch,” DeChambeau chuckled during the same interview. “He’s definitely improved since college.”

Scheffler, who played for the University of Texas, and DeChambeau, a standout at SMU, crossed paths often during their NCAA days. Back then, Bryson admitted he “beat him quite a bit,” but now sees Scheffler as “in a league of his own”.
“It’s impressive to see what he’s done,” DeChambeau expressed further. “We’re all inspired to do that.”
The Dellas native currently leads the PGA Tour in strokes gained on approach, averaging 1.292 per round this year, well ahead of Viktor Hovland and Shane Lowry. His iron play has become his superpower, and it’s the very skill DeChambeau admits he’s still chasing.
As the Ryder Cup looms at Bethpage Black this September, both players are locked in for Team USA. And while Scheffler may not be ready to embrace the Tiger comparisons, his peers and his stats are making the case louder than ever.
