Kyle Hodges from Hamilton Elks Golf Club and Mark Daniel of Vineyard Golf Course both finished the 36-holes of the Greater Cincinnati Golf Association’s 2025 GCGA Metropolitan Mid-Amateur Championship at O’Bannon Creek at 1-under par 139.
How that finish unfolded is the bigger story.
Hodges started the day two back of the lead, Daniel three back. Both players turned at 1-over par 36. Starting the inward nine, Hodges traded birdie/bogey at 10 and 12, while Daniel bogeyed 12 and 15 to fall one shot behind.
With a birdie on the par-5 17th, Hodges increased his lead over Daniels to two shots with one hole left to play. But at the par-3 finisher, Daniel made birdie-2 to Hodges’ bogey-4, tying the pair for the championship title.
In the playoff, Hodges came out on top.
Bill Williamson from Coldstream Country Club finished in a tie for third place one shot behind after shooting a bogey-free second-round 5-under par 65 to finish at even par 140.
First round co-leader Jack Kunkel of Traditions Golf Club had a solid chance to win and led the championship with five holes to play. But he went on a roller-coaster close that included two doubles, a birdie, and a bogey to finish tied with Williamson at 140, one shot out of the playoff.
