Wins 7 events, places 53rd out of 130 at international tourney in Miami
Sutton soon-to-be freshman Myles Smith, the son of BJ and Meredith Smith, and the grandson of Jim and Marcia Smith, all of Sutton, capped a banner season on the golf course this summer by capturing Player of the Year honors in the Nebraska Junior Golf Association in the 14-15 year old age group.
Smith capped his year taking on a field of 130 other golf standouts from around the world at the Optimist International Tournament, played on the Trump National Doral collection of golf courses in Miami, FL in late July.
Smith competed against players from 30 different countries, placing 53rd overall in the field of 130 total golfers.
His outing in Miami featured Smith on two different courses. In the first round, playing on the course called “The Blue Monster,” which was home to both PGA and LIV tour golf tournaments, would see Smith card an 18-hole 86 during the first round. During round two, played on the “Gold Palms Golf Course,” Smith shot a strong 75, while during his final round, again on “The Blue Monster,” Smith shot an 80 to wrap up is season.
Back at home, during play in the Nebraska Junior Golf Association season, Smith’s seven-tournament wins came at the North Bend Country Club, Southern Hills Country Club near Hastings, Cozad Country Club, Indianhead Golf Course in Grand Island, Awari Dunes Golf Course south of Kearney, and Elks Country Club in Columbus.
He totaled 713 total points for the season to earn the Player of the Year title, and was just one point shy of claiming the 2025 Summit Series championship. Smith claimed the runner-up title in the series.
In the Summit Series, Smith won both the Norfolk Country Club championship and the Wayne Country Club tournament titles.
