This one swing pattern works for beginners, pros, even world number ones. Wow. And today I’m learning it from the coach who taught them all. Today on my journey to scratch, I’m with Chris Mason, a coach who has taught world number ones like Lydia Co on the LPGA, Ricky Castella, who was once a number one amateur in the world, and many PGA pros like Ciu Kim. In this lesson, we’ll work on incorporating with into my golf swing, improve my speed and rotation, gorgeous, and get drills that guarantee compression. And the best part, he breaks it all down with clear problems, solutions, and fixes you can use today. So with that, let’s go. Can you show me one where you just turn your brain off? Oh god. Like just just swing it as hard as you can. Okay. Much more free, isn’t it? Yeah. Feel so free out here. Do you know what your club head speed usually is? The highest I’ve tracked it when we were tracking is like 122. Oh, so really fast. Yeah. That’s right. Like right now I’m just dialing it so much cuz I when I go at that I’m just like all over the place. But but like I mean now you’re swinging at 100 miles an hour. Yeah. Like and that’s you swinging that’s you swinging fast. You’d want at 102 but it’s like like you can’t be putting the brakes on. Like if you’re having to put the brakes on, you know what you’re doing is is the wrong thing, right? Like because if the technique’s good, right, and the force is in the right place, the ball like the club head should be moving faster around you and therefore going faster. Yeah. Further, you know, so so obviously you’re putting the brakes on pretty, you know, and you have been what it seems like for a few months. So um we’ve got to get this thing flowing a little bit more and a little bit more athletic rather than you just like putting things into into positions. Yeah. Cuz you might be able to get it to look like like nice on camera. Mhm. But like I don’t really care how it looks. Like we want it to perform well. Yeah. Exactly. Okay. So, um with your numbers, the main things to um notice here is for the most part the path is left. Not a ton left, right? You’re somewhere between like zero and two degrees left, which would be great for a for a um for a fade, right? Obviously, you’re trying to hit a draw. The issue obviously is your club face is closed. That’s why you’re worried about swinging left because you’re worried about it going left. Yeah. Right. So everything you’re talking about is trying to get the club face square on the back swing in order for you to not hook it, right? With the driver, for the most part, it’s very very consistent the same way, right? So you’re anywhere between two and four degrees left. So like you’re you’re moving into a fade pattern but worried about the face being sharp because if your path is moving left and the face is close to the path, you’re going to start at left and go way left. Yeah, exactly. And I think I mean I think the path is that way because right now like especially the driver, I’m like getting so close here, I feel. And that’s what I’m just trying to like fix like this back swing. So, so then everything else kind of unfolds. But yes. Yeah. So, the thing you need to know about the club face is it’s very much a matchup between your grip and your wrist condition. Yeah. Right. So, if you’re a strong grip player, right, and you’re saying four or five knuckles, which you are, right, you need to have a wrist that’s somewhat cuped or extended at the top, right? If you flatten that left wrist, then the face is going to be very closed. Yeah. Makes sense? So, conversely, like if you’re a drawn ram and the grip’s very weak, like you need to then flex the your left wrist in order to get the face square. Yeah. Right now, what you’re feeling is the face being shut. Having said that, when you’re doing your swing back here, it’s not as though you’re flexing your left wrist in order to create it shut. So, your first move moves out. The face for the most part is, I would say, square to slightly closed. Yeah. When you move to the top of your swing, I would say the face is actually pretty square, right? The left wrist, I would say, is very neutral. Mhm. So then on the down swing, what happens is you kind of turn out, your hands and arms are way too steep. The club’s coming too steep. We know that the path’s moving left. So then what you do is basically kill your lower body in order to get the club back inside. Yeah. And then from there, that that basically changes the bottom part of your arc because you’re not rotating into impact. Yeah. I’m not too concerned about the closed face feeling at the moment. Yeah. If it does get a little bit sharp, we’re just going to neutralize your grip. But what we really need to do is get you feeling like this first move is more wide and in. I want the width to pull your body back and then as a result in the down swing I want it to feel like it’s more inside on the down swing. Yeah. From there you’ll have a little bit more depth and then you’ll be able to pivot and rotate around the corner. Right. Now you’re too steep coming down and then you kill the lower body which is changing the bottom part of your arc. Yeah. And if you stall, the ball’s going to go left. Yeah. And you’re freaking out and trying to get the face square. Does that make sense? Yeah. So, we are going to hopefully do two things today. Okay. Right. We’re going to try and get this thing to flow and gain some speed a little bit. Yeah. I need the club a little bit more inside or on plane on the back swing. That’s going to turn you. And then you’re going to match the feeling on the down swing. So, you’re going to feel inside on the back, inside on the down. Hopefully, we’ll start getting a little bit more better contact and a little bit more of a push draw. If the ball hooks, we’ll we’ll change the grip, but I don’t think we’re going to need to. Okay, cool. Yeah, I had a question on the grip real quick because I’m trying to get away from like a super strong. So, right now, this is super strong or see how the face is closed. Yeah. Okay. I’m trying to get away from that. So, with a neutral be like here. So, a neutral grip, you would have the thumb just right of the golf pride. Yep. I want this fleshy part on top. Yeah. And then I want to see two and a half knuckles on your left hand. Your right hand, you see this little groove right here? Mhm. You’re just going to place your thumb right in that groove and then put this thumb over the other side of the golf pad. So it’s this is super strong and this is a little more neutral. Yeah, more neutral. And then I guess in here is there will there be space here? Ideally not. No. So you can see you kind of wrap everything on. I would have it a little just a little bit more down here. So this fleshy heel pad is going on top and then you can get a little bit more flush with the connection of your left hand. Gotcha. So okay like here. Yeah. And then here. Exactly. Right. So, here’s what I’m looking for. We’re going to try and get this to flow and get it more inside. So, you’re going to just take a setup right here. And then I want you to do what I call a rock start. Yeah. So, you’re just going to go forward and let the club swing you back and in inside and then back down the same way. So, you’re going to go forward, back, through. Okay? So, forward, back, and then just let it swing you back. So, don’t try and put it in any positions. Don’t try and change your wrist conditions. Just let the momentum of the club swing you back. So forward and then faster back and through. Exactly. And again forward. Good. Make sure you keep your width when you do that. Ready? Yeah. So forward, wide, back inside, and wide through. So I want your finish to feel like it’s wider and pulling you up. See how you’re not losing the um width. Beautiful. So on the way through here, Dr. Right. Yeah. And when you feel like you’re going, you’re rotating your hips and keeping the width on the way through. So, you’re so used to stalling and getting narrow here. Mhm. I want this width to turn and pull your body through. No, I want you holding here instead of what I’m doing is everything’s folding. Right. So, I’m trying to get you out of going you’re going steep and then stopping and then getting narrow. So, the bottom part of the arcs all over the place and the faces. Right now I’ve got you to the inside. I’ve got some flow. I need you to support this extra speed that we’ve got now. And then hold that. Yeah. Exactly. So there needs to be like a firmness into the ground if I’m going to get the strike better. Got it. So it’s more like exactly, mate. Lovely. Same on the ball. Gorgeous. Feel the difference. Yeah. I mean, this is just the back to the whole thing with the back swing though. Like when I do that, right, I feel like I just go like this. It’s going around because of the change in the spine, right? So, you’re going here, right? You’re in a really great spot and then the spine inclination moves from neutral to too much forward flexion. Right? So, you’re going down and forward, which is sending the club across and making it closed. Exactly. Right. So, if you can just keep your head and spine in the same inclination, right? This is not going to go so far around and shut at the top like that. Okay. So, a lot of this is like I’m trying to strip the pieces out, right? You’ve got 25 things in your brain that you’re trying to do. And I’m like, well, that’s never going to work. And now your speed’s you’ve lost all these feet. Yeah. Right. I’m trying to strip the pieces out. And I’m like, let’s strip it out. Let’s get the speed up and see what we’ve got. And the chances are like this, it’s like it’s actually really pretty close. M. So then if the face is shut, it’s like I’ll just fix the grip. Oh, I see. You know. Okay. Gotcha. Gotcha. But the plane line’s getting better, the the path numbers are much better. So everything has been inside. So now you’re somewhere between, you know, two to three, which is great. I see. Okay. Um, yeah. Let me try again. So when I get to the top here. Mhm. So it’s going across the line because you’re going down and forward, right? So if I just held your head, take do the rock star again. So forward. If I just keep you in the same inclination, right? See how you’ve got less rotation. Yeah. Right. The club’s going to be more online. That. There you go. And then when I come through, pressure left. Good. And then start rotating like that. Okay. Let me try. Very good. So the rock starts taking care of the back swing. There you go. Exactly. So just give me the give me the divot here. Give me that little contact forward. Wow. Good. Is that What is your like feel like when you’re just standing still? I think this is like a big problem for me, the takeaway cuz I’m just like kind of anxious on how to get Yes. without like doing this whole thing. How what’s like the move? You’re a step ahead of me. Watch this. So now I want your practice swing, right? You’re going to go forward, back, through, and hold. Mhm. And then when you get to the ball, what I really want is you to feel like there’s some momentum. So you’re basically rocking this triangle and staying wide as you do it. So the width of the hands is going to wind your body up, right? So your your left arm is going to pull your left shoulder, lat, hip, thigh, knee in that order. If you go too early with everything, this is going to stall and then this is going to have to run away. So then when this starts down, everything’s going to be too late. Gotcha. So obviously your hands are on the bigger circle. Yeah. Right. Your shoulders have got to turn, let’s say, 90 and this has got to turn 45. Yeah. Where it’s no good them going all the way to 45 together because then this is going to outra it. I’m trying to get like a rubber band. I’m trying to get this stretch cycle between your lead hand and your lead foot. Right. So you’re what I want is for this triangle to work away wide. Right. As long as you don’t manipulate the hand, like the club’s going to be bang on line and square. Yeah. From here, the stretch and this width is going to pull you to the top. The last thing that’s going to move is actually your left knee. And then you can kind of reverse order, right? You got this stretch between your left hand and your left foot. You’re going to push into your lead foot, which is going to increase the stretch cycle. It’s going to move your bottom part laterally and vertically down, right? And it’s going to get the club deep enough. Gotcha. From here, you’re in a position just to pivot your body and actually use your body to turn and keep the face square. You’re not going to have to chuck it. I see. So, you can see with this rock start, you’ve like the momentum is pulled you the way I want. You’re pressing naturally down and I want this momentum to kind of wind you through on my way through. So then when you go to the ball, just feel like this is kind of wide in the same pull off the ball. I see. Did that answer your question? Yeah. So, are you’re feeling the takeaway with your uh hands first? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, you’re going to feel like your hands are first. Yeah. Okay. Um Okay. Basically, you’re going to rock this triangle. Yeah. Exactly. And then from here, just feel like your the width pulls your body. Exactly. And then from here, push into your left foot. Yeah. Yeah. And then from there, start to rotate. Very good. Very good. Once you’ve got that stretch cycle to the top, all the way up. Very good. Hold it right there. So, you see the stretch cycle down. Now, from there, you’re going to feel like your back stays to the target and almost like your hips stay to the target. And then push laterally vertically down into your lead foot. Push down harder. Push. Like you’re squatting. Squat. Squat. Squat. There. You feel the difference? So, you’re loading that left foot, that left quad, and your left glute. Mhm. So you’re you’re basically moving the bottom part of your arc like laterally and vertically down and forward. Mhm. And then you’re pushing up and around. So from here up and around would be like just turn your hips like that. Yeah. You’re kind of like leaving everything like a baseball player. Got you. Right. That’s why you’re never going to hit the ball, are you? Right. Sorry. Turn to the top of your swing. Hold there. Right. Just keep this up. Then you’re going to push down laterally and vertically. Left hips over your left ankle. Right. And from there, this is just going to Okay, gotcha. You’ve got two two thoughts, right? Get wide and have some momentum to pull you back. Mhm. And then push into your left foot and squeeze the ball. Beautiful hit. Well done. Did you feel like you rotated all the way through on that? I think last second maybe it was like okay so then what we need here Jerome is like you need to start running what I call an error detection right like you’ve got so many pieces that you of the puzzle that you’re trying to put together right like but I really just want one or two and then we’ll see what we’ve got so it’s like okay if your ball hooked the face was close we know that right but I don’t know yet well I do is it because you’re stopping the rotation on the way through or is it because your grip’s too Okay, now come and have a look. Face is still square. You’re a little over rotated, right, with your body, which gets the club a little bit more across. Now, the face is shot, but the left wrist isn’t bowed. Yeah. So, what does that tell you? This is going here. That’s the across the line piece. Or if the grips if the if the wrist is neutral, but the face is shut, the grip must be too strong. Exactly. Right. Okay. Yeah, this is what I basically see all the time. Like it’s right. So, so you can have that. I like that that lead wrist cuz it’s very flat and neutral, isn’t it? But if you’re going to do that, we need a weaker left hand. Oh, I see. Okay. You understand? That makes way more sense, right? Feels like how do I Maybe I’ve been manipulating. Yeah, but at least you’re getting through the ball now. Yeah. Right. Other than other otherwise, you’ve got to go stronger and then you’re working really hard to keep this left wrist open in order to keep the face square. Yeah. Yeah, it’s like that’s not where your grip wants to be, is it? Right. It wants to be here. That’s why I keep telling I’m trying to strip I’m trying to take all the brakes off, trying to take the handbrake off. I want to see what we’ve got, right? I want to get the speed up and then I’ll then I can make it make it um more accurate. Yeah. Right. But like like it’s easy. I can get people hitting it straighter in five minutes, but to get people to hit it further sometimes takes months. Well, I never had that problem. Yeah. So, it’s like, let’s let’s see where you let’s see where you’re athletically inclined to be and then let me sort it out from there. Oh, okay. Um, yeah, that makes sense. There you go. Okay. Now, pop your right hand on it. There you go. Face is going to feel very open. Okay. Now, you’re always being on this circle here, right? This is too far inside. This is where you started, which was too far outside. Right. This would be two in coming down. This would be two out coming through. Yeah. Right. So, you’ve got this circle around you. Right. Well done. You actually got through that. Yeah. I need to not feel like I’m doing anything my arms and then just get through it instead of like try to manipulate it with my hands at the bottom. Exactly. Right. So that was a normal grip. So this is like this. Yeah. Should feel what what we call weaker. Yeah. There you go. So like this can’t go cuz then your shoulder’s going to go here and the club’s going to go across, isn’t it? Oh, okay. Right. So you just you’re going to be wide and quiet here. See how that’s perfectly online. Yeah. Then these this will pull you. So your head and spine stay centered the most the whole time. This is going to pull you up online. Beautiful drone. So show me that practice swing again. You’re not just flipping your hips around, right? Hands and arms are winding you up. Your lower body is going to be strong. So forward. Exactly. Right. See how you didn’t over rotate? Gorgeous. Look at you fully flushing it. Yeah, it’s not a bad shot. All right. Very good. So when I go here and I’m trying to it’s just turn to the top turn and like with your upper body this way. Yeah. This circle here is going to be pulling what I would call your hip circle, right? You’re not moving them depend um together. Oh, it’s so it’s actually like that. See how much shorter that is. Now rock your rock that triangle. Don’t do anything with your hands and arms. And just rock your shoulders until I get See, I get stuck. Now, let the width pull you to the top. Stretch to the top like the club’s throwing you back like that. Exactly. Right. So, like this will this will gradually get wound up all the way to the top, right? And your head’s staying in the same inclination. So, your head stays still. Yeah. So, you see how much shorter that is. Oh, okay. Let me try. Really nice. Okay. That’s pretty good. Pretty good. It’s amazing, right? But like like you’re not like over rotating here now, right? Your head and spine stay centered. Your hands and arms are in this big circle. Hands and arms are winding you up. Your feet are kind of gripping into the ground. So you got this this this stretch around your center point, right? I think when I lose this in the previous I would use my arms more to bring it up like this instead of when I’m throwing here I have to kind of match it with this turn like in order to like let if to like keep this stable I would have to like reach with my chest I guess is like a new feeling I guess let your hands and arms pull you to the top. There you go. Yep. Yep. You see how you’re getting out you’re getting out of the way of centrifugal force drone? Yeah. Do you know what that means? Yeah, like the club’s like swinging your body back. So, as long as you don’t just like let it just, you know. Yeah, it’s going to be fine. Good. Is that I think the my swing collapses when I go here and I turn incorrectly. You’re over rotating, aren’t you? Right. So, your your hips are turning a ton, which is moving your head too far back and down. Yeah. Right. So that’s what gets the club across the line. That’s what you’re seeing a shot face, right? Response to number one, the grip being a little too strong. Yeah. Number two, like everything going too deep and around. So how does when I throw this up? Mhm. Because like natural when I throw it, it’s going to go like this. Mhm. The turn is here and then I just go like this way. Like like I guess this is going up and to the right. Well, if I if I keep your I mean I’d be the first component to know that the head actually moves up and down and around, right? But like if you just focused on keeping your head and spine in the same inclination, so your posture stay the same the entire time. Yeah. Right. Now, if you just turn around that, then just stay wide and turn. Right. Like your spine can only work in one inclination, can’t it? I see this a lot. Not from you. Yeah. Right. But like a lot of hip slide and then people go this way. Yeah. Yeah. If your head and spine feels like it’s staying in the same inclination and you pivot around or rotate around it, it’s just going to do that. Your shoulders can only move one direction, can’t they? So, it would basically be if I was like super still here and I was rotating around that, it would be do that. Please do that. Okay. And then hit from there. Very good. Now, check this out. Up through shaft plane, up through your hands, up to your right forearm. Oh man, it’s so much easier. I don’t even really have I just basically if I keep this stable the entire time I Yes. Right. Didn’t think about your hands, did you? Crazy. Right. You just got to push into your left foot. Everything’s perfect coming down. Okay, here you are from this side. Oh, that’s crazy. That’s wild. So, the root cause really is my spine and my head. When it kind of goes like this, it’s gonna Yeah. You’re over rotating on the back swing. Look at that. Beautiful pressure down. Plenty of shaft lane. Yeah. When you rotate through, super stable. Yeah. Exactly. I love that word. So, it’s like almost like you’re like gripping your feet into the ground, right? Imagine you got a nail through your head down your spine and out your bum and then you’re just winding yourself up around that. Gorgeous. We actually had some pop on that. Yeah, you need to have these checklists, right? So, it’s like, okay, every day, how’s my grip? How’s my posture? How’s my alignment? My ball position, right? I call it grab. So, grip, rhythm, alignment, ball position, setup. Grip, rhythm, alignment, ball position, setup. So, is my grip neutral? Right? Is my is my rhythm consistent? Is my alignment square? Is my ball position 4 in inside my left heel? Right? And is my setup balanced? Right? So, I’m checking that every day. That’s non-negotiable. Right? Then from there, from face on, is my spine, head and spine staying in same inclination or is it moving down and forward? Mhm. Right. On the back swing, am I over rotating my hips or are my feet and knees staying stable? Yeah. Right. So, as long as those things are there, your back swing’s going to be in a great spot. Right. Yeah, I agree. I have this trigger that I’ve realized I always go like this because I didn’t have like a takeaway feel. So I would either like lift this and try to initiate it, but I would initiate it with my head sometimes. So because of that, it would like follow. So I’ve been trying to figure out a better takeaway initiation. But yeah, sometimes I don’t even realize they do this. And so yeah, that’s okay. Like Jack Nicholas used to like look out out of his left eye, right? And kind of preset his his head this way so he could rotate. Yeah. So I see. I think it’s cuz I’m also left eye dominant maybe. Yeah. And try to go like that. But a lot of plays like that. I didn’t realize that this was causing the club face. Yeah. So, probably what I was doing then is like I was trying to I was doing this, but then I was like trying to manipulate it up here. Yes. So, I was like, “Oh, it looks good.” But this is like here. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I see. Okay. Now, I I feel like this is like Yes. planted. Yes. Like clawed in. Oh, I love that. I’m going to use that clawed in. I love that. Right. And then I guess my my thought now is really I don’t know. I’m just feeling like my spine is always here. Yes. That’s in my head. Yes. And then if I do that, I just kind of like throw my the club this way. Yeah. In a way where it’s just like it’s just wide, isn’t it? Wide. And then if I just keep feel that if I keep going around it, it’s it’s it should be in a good spot. Pretty good. So forward. Good. Centered and through almost. You kind of got a little stuck again there, didn’t you? Take your set up. Yeah. Here’s impact. See how you’ve rotated and this is stable. Then you’re just making this radius. Hold it right there. See how wide that is? Yeah. So, it’s in order to do that, I have to kind of like Okay, hold on. There you go. Setup is much better. Good. Let’s check the grip. Good. Good. Okay. Okay. Okay. So, if I wanted to get there, head centered, I would have to go. There you go. Here’s a cool separate drill. What you’re going to do is actually put the club back behind your right foot and put it on the mat. And then from there, how long can you keep this on the floor for? Oh, I see. So, like I I couldn’t go like this cuz there’s no pressure in the ground, right? You have to rotate your hips. The head and spine has to move down and forward. This pressure has to be into into the shaft here in order to flex it. And then from there, you’re just pivoting around. I see. So, this radius is staying very constant. So, that’s what keeps the face constant. If you stall, this is going to go this way. Gotcha. Right. See? See how the radius has gone? Mhm. Mhm. Right. So, really good drill is just get the club and then keep it on the floor and keep rotating. And then when you do a little half swing, you just do the same thing. I see. I also had a problem back in the day when my side bend was like this rather I feel like this is I’m just like rotating around my spine. Yes, exactly. And then it’s me trying to get here. It’s just going to naturally You said it best. Right. Now, why would you be side bending? Your arms are too high. The club gets too steep. So, you need to shallow it. How are you going to shallow it? Yeah. Right. So, then you’ve added the side bend to shallow it. But like if if you turn around your spine, right, and you’ve got appropriate width and depth, as you land down, as you call it, into your lead foot, the hands are in position. So then from there, you’re just pivoting around your lead foot. Good. Is that Oh yeah, that is so short. Yeah, but you can see like there’s actually a natural stop, right? It’s like if your lower body is like really stable, the width is going to wind your torso up and then it’s going to wind your hips up and then there’s kind of two natural stops. Your right hip can only go so far and your left shoulder. Y right now if this just collapses and you got no pressure in this trail foot, this is going to over rotate. I see. So I should stop before that happens. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, but I should just keep going with my like I could like rotate this. Yeah. But you see how you had to turn your hips in order to be able to rotate that hard. Yeah. So, it’s basically like there’s where I stop. Exactly. Right. If you’re ever in doubt. Yeah. This is a great drill. You can just pop the club on your shoulders. So, the grip ends always outside your left shoulder. Yeah. Like this. Right. And then from there, it’s like if you just turned your shoulders first, they’d probably get stuck at about 40°. Mhm. And then from there, feel like your shoulders wind you up until you get to the point where it’s this is matching the inside of your right foot. I see. You see that? Mhm. Now, you’re going to ask me where where to go from there, right? So, shoulders and then a little bit of hips. Now, if I over rotate these hips, see how far I went? Yeah. But now, I’ve got nothing I’ve got no clawing into my right foot. I see. No stability, is it? And look what’s happened to my spine. Mhm. You understand that? Yep. So, you’re winding up with the width and then at this point here, it’s going to stop. From here, you’re going to push laterally and vertically into your lead foot. You see how this didn’t change? Yeah. Right. I didn’t go this way cuz it’s going to change. I didn’t go down cuz it’s going to change. I didn’t open up. Right. I’m in that inclination. I’m pushing laterally vertically down. Yeah. Then I’m turning up and around. I see. So for there though, I feel like in here and then what I was doing was going down. You were going this way. I see. So you get your speed. So I need to just keep going this way like this is okay. Mhm. I see. Okay. Thanks. I see. I just gave my gym to the camera. That’s going to be our first short. Just stay wide and turn around just fine. You’ll get stuck. Oh god. Okay. You feel that? Yeah. It’s a little harder obviously with longer club. Yeah. Really good. Well done. Okay. Very good. Wow. That was nice. Yeah. See how you didn’t turn down? So then you didn’t have to move back up in order to hit it. Yeah. And trajectory is a little lower. Okay. So with every lesson I give, whether it’s to drone or the number one player in the world, I’m going to tell you what the problem is. I’m going to tell you what the solution is. Going to give you a drill to get better. And then I’m going to tell you what um to look for in what I call error detection. Right? So every player needs to know if they’re moving in the right direction or the wrong one. And when they hit a bad shot, they need to know why and how to fix it. Right? So what was your problem? Your problem was your problem was everything. The problem is you had too many pieces. So we started by like shredding all of that out and then just kind of got you flowing a little bit more. So like you were basically just trying to manipulate your speed had gone down, right? So we started off by shredding that all getting the swing to um kind of loosen up and flow. Took the brakes off. Yeah. And then got the speed back up immediately. Then saw what the problems are. Right. The problems were you were turning off the ball and down too much and your grip was too strong. So as you got to the top, the club was across the line and shut. Mhm. Okay. So, what we did, number one is we got the grip neutral. Yeah. I’m looking for it to be closer to than the fingers. I want the fleshy part on top. I want you to see two and a half knuckles on your left hand. Yeah. Okay. Number two, I want your head and spine to stay centered without it moving off. And I want less rotation with your lower body. So, your hips were moving too fast too early, which was changing the inclination of your spine. That was what’s getting the club across. So, we got the head more centered. You told me you felt like you were clawing your feet and knees into the ground. So then from there, this width wound you up around your spine. Yeah. Okay. That got the club in the right um spot, got your arm structure better, it got your wrist structure better, and the face got a lot more square. Mhm. Okay. From there, you you tried to do a lot of down swing stuff. What I’m really just looking for you to do is pressure your lead foot. Yeah. And then your feeling would be like you’re creating the same width on the way through. Yeah. That you did on the back swing. So, as soon as you try to focus on your lower body moving, that changed the bottom part of the arc. But when we got the widths to pull you through, that got you pivoting around your lead axis. Yeah. And it carried your chest and your hips through anyway. Yeah. Okay. So, even though it might not be like the technically correct sequence of things, it sequenced you properly. Mhm. Okay. Your drill would be little rock start. Yeah. Right. So, as long as you don’t move off the ball with the rock start. Yeah. Yeah. If you do the rock start and stay centered, that got you creating that width and flow that we’ve been missing in your swing. Yeah. And then your error detection, anything um anything fat, you know, you moved off the ball. Yeah. Anything hooked, either your grip was too strong, so check that, or you stopped your rotation on the way through, I need more turn on the way through. Got it. Okay. If the ball starts going too high and right, it means the face is too open. Maybe you’ve overdone the grip. Okay. Okay. So, problem solution, drill, and error detection. Yep. Awesome, man. All right, dude. Pleasure for Hey, Jerome here. Thanks so much for supporting me on this journey so far. 1. This video is the completion of my road trip to visit some new coaches and learn some different methodologies, apart from my primary coach. I learned so much, and as a disclaimer, there will be a slight shift in content for the channel moving forward. There will be a lot more videos where I play out on the course (but there will still be coaching videos in tandem). Thanks to everyone who has been part of the journey, and hoping to continue sharing with you all the Scratch to Scratch journey moving forward!

  2. I naturally started messing with this width thing in my last round or two so this video is really cool to see!

  3. Watch the ball until it lands. Practice is a process and you interrupt that process by immediately reaching for the next ball to hit. It’s a mindset and it’s important.

  4. Chris Mayson is a huge name in coaching amongst the pros. Fantastic share, thanks Jerome.

  5. So frustrating watching you work with all these world class coaches and you’re more anxious to hit balls than actually listen to their advice.

  6. How are we gonna know if this dude turns in to a scratch golfer if we never see him play a round of golf?

  7. Hey bro
You really tried to complicate that back swing 😆 bro just Stay wide and turn. Left shoulder feels like it’s on the inside of your right foot 🤷🏻‍♂️ that’s it brother

  8. Really enjoyed this! The communication was pleasant to listen to! Beautiful to see! Keep it up!

  9. Finally a good coach. Been trying to tell you I haven't seen Dana really improve the average player. The guys he typically sees are already elite

  10. I swear your lessons go hand for hand what I’m doing with my game. Thanks for all the content it’s been a lot of help. It’s helped me from hitting 100+ in January to being consistently in the 80s
