it’s the same concept – 2nd slide has all the same ball positions, albeit with a progressively wider stance going up through the bag
YoungBummer
i always placed my pitch down to my wedges by my right heel as a righty…
GoinLowWithTempo
Depends on your personal feels. I keep wedges thru 7 dead center, 6 thru 5w one ball left of that and Driver one ball left of those. (For straight shots.)
Other shots will call for different ball positions.

I do it the 2nd way – I change my stance based off the club length I’m hitting. The effect is the same (wedges/short irons the ball is roughly in the middle of your stance).
I think it’s easier to remember to have the ball in the same position off your front foot and to adjust your trail foot so the ball is in the right place in your stance.
ZoinksYo2221
Neither. I’ll play the ball where I want.
Fragrant-Report-6411
To me it’s basically the same. You naturally narrow your stance. The 1st picture the stance is not wide enough for your driver.
WasatchSLC
Depends on the type of shot you want to hit.
Pretty_Shallot_586
Both images are basically placing the ball at different locations based on center of mass (COM) of the player. The first image assumes a constant stance width therefore COM doesn’t change for the player. The second image changes the stance width but moves COM as well.
But the important consideration is where the COM is and both approaches are pretty consistent with that idea. COM more over the ball with shorter clubs, more behind as the clubs get longer

I would lean more towards the second slide personally but that’s just what works better for my game. Not all golfers are the same.
Pleasant-Onion157
Whichever works best for you.
I prefer 2 because it makes my preshot routine more repeatable.
My back foot is the only variable that changes between clubs.
Plus, I like the feel of being more narrow on short icons. Im tall with wide-ish shoulders. Shoulder width is perfect for the driver but awful for the wedges. I feel too far and start over thinking.
DullFee82
I don’t think you’re supposed to put long iron that far up
Practical_Garlic3015
They are the same

Whatever works for you is right

My golf instructor teaches the second way. So I’m going to go with that one.

I’m not a fan of having the ball so far forward on the stance for beginners. In my opinion, it leads to a lot of casting of the club and thin shots.
pearauto45
Driver is off left shoulder. Fairway, left nipple. Hybrids and 5-iron, left nut… 6i-9i directly off the head of my bird… PW – 60 degree off my left nut. Works like a charm. Stance is a bit wider for driver and fairway, a bit narrower for wedges. Easy system and keeps it consistent.
Explosive_Nut
I think I pretty naturally do the second while thinking about the first.
Marine_1345
I think there’s a lot more two it than either show. But for a basic, stock shot, I’d go more with the second one
Reading this as a beginner lefty got me all discombobulated.
Pelican_Queef_32536
I put all irons in the middle, wedges a touch back from middle and driver at the heel. Really helps me create ball first contact and not top shots with my swing, even if it’s not technically correct
Chilipep1
Go hit balls with intention, and find out what works best. More time in the dirt.
Early_Incident_2000
I am strange and play literally everything off the front foot. The ball at address with the driver is actually in front of the foot. I know it’s not normal, but it works for me.
VastWillingness6455
It all depends on the shot you want to or try to hit. The sand wedge position can be used as a stinger with an iron or driver.
chicagochicagochi99
As a lefty, I looked at this crazy for a second.
Hot_Major8602
just do it a little different every time with every club
Laxbro21796
All of this is dependant on what shot youre playing and what kind of loft/spin you’re looking for. My favorite person who taught me told me to do something similar to #1 (Driver off left foot if golfing righty) but all of this is dependant on your swing. He would tell people different things so that they didn’t have to change their swing TOO much and could be comfortable. Do what’s best for you my dude.

I’m definitely in the Page 2 camp. My stance width does exactly that. The more I want to hit up on the ball, the wider my stance gets so I can have more lateral side-bend to shallow the club.
If I kept the same width stance for all my shots, I think I’d hit a lot of shots fat or skullfuck them 100 yds over the green.
hobeast68
I use those rochambeau cobra single length irons. Ball is the same place in my stance regardless of distance, except for my driver.
