Partners for Our Communities to host golf outing Sept. 12

Partners for Our Community hosts a summer camp activity on a morning before swimming at the Palatine Park District Aquatic Center. The golf outing supports POC’s ICompete Youth Program, which is in partnership with the Palatine Park District.

Join Partners for Our Communities (POC) for a day of golf, games, and prizes to impact children and families on Friday, Sept. 12, at Palatine Hills Golf Course.

POC empowers underserved individuals and families throughout the Northwest suburbs by removing barriers, connecting people to vital resources, and creating pathways to self-sufficiency and leadership.

With five community-based locations and a network of over 50 partner organizations, including local schools, churches, nonprofits, businesses, and government agencies, POC has become a trusted hub for holistic, culturally responsive services that meet people where they are in their life journey.

POC’s bilingual, bicultural staff reflect the communities they serve. Their deep understanding of clients’ lived experiences makes POC’s approach both effective and compassionate.

“We believe we are all stronger together,” said Seth Moland-Kovash, POC executive director. “That’s why we focus on solutions that are community-led and culturally informed.”

A mission tooted in empowerment

POC’s mission is to empower individuals and families and change lives by 1.) Teaching survival skills to navigate a complex and ever-changing world, 2.) Removing barriers and connecting clients to resources and services, 3.) Encouraging self-awareness and honoring cultural heritage, and 4.) Offering life skills training, continuing education, and workforce advancement.

One hundred percent of POC clients live in poverty and face challenges in language, access, and opportunity. It works to level the playing field by offering leadership training, English and communication skill-building, and decision-making support, particularly for women.

In partnership with Harper College and others, POC also connects clients to scholarships, ESL and GED classes, vocational training, and certificate programs. In a model unique to POC, many staff and volunteers are hired directly from the communities served, ensuring authenticity and trust in every interaction.

With over three decades of service, POC continues to expand its programs and partnerships in response to evolving community needs.
