Ted Scott will not be on the bag of Scottie Scheffler at this week’s BMW Championship at Caves Valley in Maryland, it has been confirmed by a PGA Tour spokesperson to GolfMagic.
Scott had to return home to attend a private family matter after last Saturday’s third round of the FedEx St Jude Championship at TPC Southwind.
Scheffler’s good friend and the PGA Tour’s chaplain Brad Payne stepped in for the final round of the first Playoffs event last Sunday.
Payne drove from his home town of Dallas, Texas, on Saturday night to be with Scheffler ahead of the final round in Memphis.
Scheffler went on to finish one shot shy of a playoff that was eventually won by Justin Rose.
In the latest update provided to GolfMagic by a PGA Tour spokesperson, Scheffler will once again be without Scott at this week’s BMW Championship as he “continues to attend to a private family matter.”
Scheffler has acquired the stand-in services of Chris KIrk’s normal caddie Mike Cromie at Caves Valley GC in Maryland.
Kirk is letting Cromie caddie for Scheffler after he finished just outside the top 50 in the FedEx Cup that advanced to the BMW.
He agonisingly finished in 51st place.
World No.1 Scheffler is leading the season-long PGA Tour race as he bids to become the first player in history to successfully defend the FedEx Cup.
The PGA Tour also confirmed to GolfMagic it remains unknown at this stage whether Scott will be able to return for next week’s Tour Championship.

Cromie has been on the bag for KIrk since 2020.
Kirk has won six times on the PGA Tour with his last victory coming at The Sentry in January 2024.

Scheffler has won all 17 of his career PGA Tour titles, including his Olympic gold medal in Paris last summer, with Scott on the bag.
Cromie is a talented golfer himself having played college golf at University of Georgia.

Scheffler starts a red-hot 11/4 favourite to win the BMW Championship.
The runaway World No.1 and FedEx Cup leader is seeking a fifth win of the season.
Rory McIlroy returns to action at odds of 8/1 to win his fourth title of the season.

Austria’s Sepp Straka was forced to withdraw on the eve of the tournament.
Straka’s WD is a blow to his chances of making the automatic top six on the European Ryder Cup team.
But given he’s won twice already this season, you would think he’s assured of a captain’s pick should he not qualify on merit.
