The top 50 in the FedEx Cup standings head to the BMW Championship for the second leg of the PGA Tour’s playoffs.
World No.1 Scottie Scheffler retained his lead at the top of the standings with a tied third finish last week at the FedEx St. Jude Championship that was won by England’s Justin Rose in a dramatic circumstances.
Scheffler is the betting favourite to land his fifth victory this season but will also have to contend with Masters champion Rory McIlroy, who returns to action following a two-week break.
McIlroy’s decision to skip last week’s tournament at TPC Southwind caused a stir, but he didn’t move an inch in the rankings despite JJ Spaun’s second-placed finish in Memphis.
Only the top 30 players in the standings will advance to next week’s season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake.
Notable players whose season came to an abrupt end last week included Jordan Spieth, Wyndham Clark and Tony Finau.
