Tommy Fleetwood was in a reflective mood after the FedEx St. Jude Championship, as the Englishman came close to sealing his first PGA Tour title win, but ultimately fell short on the last hole before Justin Rose and J.J Spaun battled it out in a dramatic playoff.

Tommy, you have detailed the challenges and occasional frustration in trying to win on the PGA Tour. How would you describe your emotion coming so close today? Uh I don’t know yet. I don’t know. Um did a lot of good things today really. Obviously right at the end again. Um I’m getting close. I think um you know that’s that’s the good side of it. I feel like I’m getting really close and again on that back nine um managed to get myself ahead. played some really good golf, puted really well. Um, obviously, you know, Justin and JJ have done great there and I just didn’t uh quite do enough. You know, you get to those last three holes, par five, 16, and then um bogey on 17. Uh yeah, I I I don’t know. I’m I’m obviously disappointed. Um again, when you reflect, look at the positives. Um I was right in there with a chance. And it’s it’s hard, right? It’s it’s hard to win. There’s so many good players and and like I was I was next to somebody that played unbelievable golf down the stretch there and um yeah, just didn’t get it done. You played great golf. It looked like you unlocked something when that birdie putt fell on the 12th hole. Any regrets about any of the shots you struck down the stretch? Uh it’s hard to say. I you know I think um you know going into that par five see poorest iron shot and then maybe chose to go high maybe could have gone low with my first chip you know made par there whatever and then 17 you know having to 17 was such an awkward yardage with the way the wind was and having to a cut around those trees I think there was a little bit of mud on the ball as well should really get it up and down hit like didn’t hit the best put there so you know you can you can look at what you wish you could have done right should have should have would a could have obviously But I think um like I I you know that that’s the stuff that I will look at and think you know what could I have done better. Um but I also want to look at the stuff that I did do well like you say from I felt like I really had to battle on that front nine. uh hit like three mini drivers that I missed the fairway with and didn’t really have the rhythm in my irons and felt like I’d sort of scrambled really well and battled well and then like you say put goes in on 12, 30 and go put on 14 for par 15 like it was it was really rolling and so you know I I’d much rather look at the good stuff and but you know as always you want to know what you need to do to improve and and make that final step and win.
