In a stunning turn of events at the Nexo Championship, Grant Forest has emerged as the player to beat, holding a commanding threeshot lead heading into the final round. After a thrilling display of skill and determination, the Scottish golfer finished the third day with consecutive birdies, solidifying his position at the top of the leaderboard. Forest, who began the third round with a narrow one-shot lead, maintained his composure and delivered a commendable performance, carding a one underpar round of 71. This impressive showing has pushed him to a total score of eight underpar, placing him three strokes ahead of his closest competitors, England’s Todd Clemens, Norway’s Christopher Rayton, and the Netherlands Dan Heising. A seasoned veteran at 32 years old, Forest secured his maiden DP World Tour victory on home turf in 2021 at the Hero Open held at Fairmont St. Andrews. Now with the eyes of his country upon him, he aims to double his win count right in front of his home crowd in Aberdine. Despite his strong position, Forest remains humble, acknowledging that the tournament is far from over. Reflecting on his third round performance, he shared, “There’s still a long road ahead, but I’m pleased with how I fought through today. It was a fantastic way to close out the round.” He added, “Let’s see what tomorrow holds.” Forest had a smooth start, playing well for the opening seven holes. However, he encountered a few setbacks, recording bogeies on the eighth and 10th holes. Despite the challenges, he managed to steady himself and regained his focus. I’m content with my strategy thus far, he commented. If we face similar conditions, it’ll be crucial to maintain accuracy off the tea, hit greens, and stay patient. Interestingly, Forest has only led once before in a tournament, and that time he emerged victorious. “There’s still much ground to cover, particularly on this golf course,” he admitted. I intend to take it one shot at a time. The presence of his family adds an extra layer of motivation for Forest. It’s wonderful to have my family supporting me here, and I expect even more to join us tomorrow, he said. I’m truly excited for the final round, and having baby Spencer here makes it even more special. Spending quality time with my loved ones at home has been a cherished experience. As the tournament progresses, Forest faced a momentary setback when playing partner Jordan Smith overtook him briefly after the turn following a series of bogey par bogey shots from the eighth hole. This left Forest at five under. However, Smith’s bogey on the 11th allowed Forest to reclaim the lead, tying with Smith and Clemens and Raen for the top spot. Forest’s patience paid off as he seized the solo lead with a birdie on the 14th, moving to six under. His putter proved to be his secret weapon, delivering clutch birdies from 16 and 20 ft to cap off the round with an 8 underpar total. Not far behind, England’s Joe Dean and Andy Sullivan along with Denmark’s Jacob Scov Olison each posted a two under par 70, securing their place in a tie for fifth at three under. Eddie Peril stands alone in eighth at two under par, while Finland’s Oliver Lindell, Englishman John Perry, Scotland’s Ryan Lumdston, and American Davis Bryant trail closely in ninth just one shot back. Will Grant Forest continue his winning streak or will another competitor rise to the challenge? Only time will tell as the final round unfolds.
